    Petshop Puppies

Before finding this forum I was a bad dog mommy and I bought my darci from a pet store.
I recently found the website petshoppuppies.com and they researched darci for me.

What I found was so terrible, this lady had 488 dogs, 130 of which were puppies.
Heres the link that shows all the info on the breeder and what kind of dogs she had.

I was so sick when I read this, I will never ever buy from anyone except a reputable breeder.

Hopefully your efforts will reach someone in your shoes before they buy.  Lots of us start out buying our purebred dog from a less than reputable source.  The problems occur when we dont learn from that.

I tried them once before and she couldn't find anything on my dog but I just submitted again and we'll see if she can find anything this time. Chances are likely my dog came from a byb or, as I like to say, Bubba with a box o' pups, who was too lazy to sit in a parking lot with the rest of the byb's. Our dog was bought by a friend at Plano Pets & Grooming in Plano, Tx on 9-3-03, at 6 weeks for $200.00. He is described on the purchase paper as a husky/lab mix and he certainly appears to be one. No name for sire or dam. Breeder's name is Mike Yaeger.

I called the store once and the high school clerk flat out refused to answer me. I guess they have a pet store/ byb confidentiality thing, like a lawyer. The second time, I went there and left my info for the breeder to contact me, based on an idea someone came up with. There was no follow up. I have filed a complaint with the BBB with the desired resolution being contact info for the breeder. I'm not trying to get the guy in trouble. I just have some questions of academic interest. I've pretty well figured out the mating that produced Shadow and just want confirmation.

Anyway, blessings to you, Darci, for giving a rat's patooti and researching.

How can you research a breeder?  Is there a place to check out pedigrees too?
    • Gold Top Dog
One place to start is the national club website.  There is often a breeder's code of ethics and a breeder referral list.  It is also helpful to subscribe to the national clubs newletter/magazine.  Dog shows are also a place to start checking out breeders.  Pedigrees can be found on websites in some cases, within the newsletters and in some clubs with geneology publications.   You may be able to find a person with a pedigree data base once you are more well known within the breed.

And do not think of yourself that way. Think of it as uneducated.

But the alternative is this, YOU have given Darci a better, happier, healthier life than what she could have gotten. Focus on that instead..

And THANK YOU for your help and information.... HUGE HELP.........

    Firestorm,

The only way I know how so far is this link which will tell you if they are licensed and from their number, you can track it down.
    Go to:       [linkhttp://www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/publications/reports/A_cert_holders.txt]http://www.aphis.usda.gov/ac/publications/reports/A_cert_holders.txt[/link]

It goes by STATE. That is how I tracked down a breeder's license number to see if they were legit. Now, from their, click on the link above that Darci provided and go to request report and fill in as much as you can. They will email the information back to you. Only pet store pets though.

The majority of breeders (in my preferred breeds) are not licensed under USDA.  In fact most with USDA licences (at least in OH) are commercial operations.  Rarely goes hand in hand with responsible breeding in my experience.
