Summer's Coming, What to Do?

We can deal w/ shedding, but he's always so hot in the summer that we feel bad. Has anyone done it/do it regularly? Will it grow out by the winter? I ask b/c he was shaved in two small spots & the spots took at least 3 months to grow back, maybe more... • rwbeagles Posted : 3/27/2007 10:57:57 PM If you shave him...IMO you should only do it where he will get the benefit (cooler) and not the risk (sunburn, skin cancers, or losing the insulating COOLING quality of his coat yes even northern breeds use their coats to cool and protect their skin)....shave only underneath...where it's seldom in direct sunlight. This is the surface MOST easily cooled and likely to be appreciated when they lay on cool tile or in water. It's handy to splash water on them when you shave their undersides as well, and it really cools them quickly.   Also remember sometimes shaving a dog down, esp a triple or double coated dog...will result in the coat not growing back the same or in the same pattern or texture.   I'd never do more than a chest & belly shave personally.
