Bio Spot anyone?

    Bio Spot anyone?

I've been researching what to use and bio spot seems to repel it all..but does it work? Thoughts? Otherwise I was going to go with Frontline Plus...

If I had to choose one or the other I would definitely go with Frontline Plus. There's a couple of reasons why.

First, Biospot simply doesn't work that well. The active ingredients have been around for a long time and the fleas have developed a pretty good immunity against them. Frontline Plus does an excellent job of killing almost every life cycle the flea has. Biospot doesn't do that so your dog will quickly become re-infested.

Second, the active ingredients are toxic to insects AND mammals. I can't tell you how many cats we've treated at our hospital with Biospot reactions. The active ingredients in Frontline Plus are toxic to insects only.

Frontline Plus is more expensive but well worth it in my opinion. I would also recommend purchasing it from your vet so they can tell you how to apply it correctly and you can get the manufacturer's guarantee. They might even have some coupons for you to use with your purchase. [:)]

If you go to [linkhttp://www.dogsadversereactions.com]http://www.dogsadversereactions.com[/link] you will see that BioSpot is bad stuff -- it's systemic.  That means it goes thru the skin into the body and STAYS there for an undetermined length of time.  Even when it is not longer 'effective' the pesticides are still IN the body.  Besides ... the flea has to BITE the dog for it to work.

Both Revolution and BioSpot are systemic (check out Revolution on that website as well - also has a history of bad reactions).  In both cases for the most part the flea/parasite has to bite the dog for it to work (Revolution has SOME pyrethrin action that stays on the skin for a while).  But Frontline and Advantage both work well without the risk to the dog.

Akjones, I definitely agree with your opinion of BioSpot.  It is much too toxic.

However, are you saying that the manufacturer of Frontline Plus does not honor their guarantee if the product is not purchased from a vet?  If so, can you provide some documention to that effect?

    Their guarantee is here...

They also state on their site that it's only available with a scrip....is that the case? I've seen it in Petco but in a locked case...perhaps they make you show a scrip before you buy? I don't know as I get mine free from my FIL who's a vet.

[font=verdana]An itemized, printed receipt for the purchase of FRONTLINE Brand products must be submitted to Merial. The printed receipt must show the place of purchase, the date of purchase, the product brand name, the amount of product purchased and the purchase price.

They require a receipt to get a refund, but I don't see anything about a prescription.

Nope, don't need a scrip to buy it at petco/petsmart.

dog.com sells it and you don't need a script.  At least, for the spray, since I've boughten it before.

I also almost went with biospot, but then realized that it must be cheap for a reason, and that there have been many many reports of problems with the "cheaper" brands, such as this and hartz

My Trudy had a reaction to Bio-spot.  Within minutes after I applied it she became very aggitated and started to drool.  She was in great distress.  I picked her up and immediately put her in the bathtub and thoroughly washed the stuff off with Dawn.  She quickly was much better after that.

I will only use Frontline Plus for me girls.  It works and they have never had an adverse reaction to it.

Shelties and collie type dogs, I believe, are more sensitive to meds and topical preperation.  I wouldn't risk it.  Use Frontline.
