    recreation marrow bones

I give these bones for my dogs to play/chew on a few times a week.  They usually manage to get a good amount of the marrow and meat off in a few 30 min sessions.  My question is -  how long are these things good for, I wash, clean, and freeze the bones after each session but I don't think it'd be good to keep it around for more than a week, any thoughts?

I generally get rid of them once they start to loose that "pink" fresh look. They get harder and more brittle the longer they sit around, and it makes them easier to crack or get splinters off of. I usually don't keep them around for more than a few days, but that's primarily because I buy 4 a week (2 for each dog) and hand them out set days (Mondays for sure and then usually Thursday or Friday). In between new ones I stuff the old ones and freeze them, but once they get new ones I throw the old ones out.

We have one of those outside between my two dogs and they have had it for 4 months or more(??) and they still chew on it, I fill it w/ peanut butter sometimes.

But then again I think I may be thinking of beef bones and they have marrow in them

That's what we're all thinking of, right?

You can keep them around for months, but the risk of them cracking and splintering goes up the longer they sit around and get more brittle.

For $1.00 you can go get another one at the butcher, so I prefer to just keep fresh ones around and throw away the oldies.

    Wash them? LOL

I leave them lying around til I get sick of kicking, stepping on, and rolling over on them (yup, they make it up to my bed).
