    Look at this guy...

Seriously, why do I look at Petfinder??? He's only an hour away, too...at a pound. : (

"Please contact the Dog Warden by phone for quickest response! It's Adopt a Senior month!!! Red is a sweetheart! Very affectionate, seems lonely, seems lost here. He's so sweet, still active to a degree, definately not puppy energy but doesn't seem to have any bone/joint problems, his tail still wags perfectly. His teeth are not good but he eats fine, very hungry, very under wieght. Look at those eyes, he's seen alot in his life and he still loves us!! Please, please help him, he wouldn't be much trouble and it is Adopt a Senior month, he's really just wants a warm place to lay, someone to pet him and feed him, he'd give you ten-fold back! Please give him a chance. "

An hour away from where?  Your profile doesn't list your location.

Ahh I am sad now!! How can someone put that poor dog in the pound? Where is he at? I love Irish Setters obviously considering I have one.

Happens a lot when elderly people die and there is no family - or at least no family that wants an old dog, particularly a large, old dog.

How right you are, Janet.  It's one reason that, although I adopted strays all my life, I plan on buying my dogs from reputable breeders from now on, so that they have somewhere to go.  Or, adopt from a rescue that will take them back if I can't care for them.  Have a plan for your pets!!!!!

DON'T GET ME STARTED!!!  He's a sweet boy.

I just HAD to look at special needs seniors ... and there's a little pug named "Helen" (as in Keller) -- she's only got one eye and that one is blind, and she's mostly deaf.  AND she's heartworm positive.  *sigh*

Maybe I can at least help them with the heartworm treatment .... *sigh* -- scarey the things that tug at us, huh??

I truly can't afford a fourth dog at this time. But, I've made a promise to myself that after my current dogs can no longer be here, I will adopt seniors and pretty much only seniors. I happen to like them and I also have some othopedic problems of my own. Since my eight year old dog wears me out, I think it best that I stick to dogs of at least that age in the future.

I just wish other people were so sensible--like the neighbors who can't walk a quarter of a mile but purchased an Aussie puppy.
