    Pheramone Diffusers

Has anyone ever used a DAP?  Did it help?  Is there one brand that is better than the others?  I asked in Behavior but got no responses.  If I try one I need to order it soon...

I never heard about using them with dogs but cats I have.

I used Composure Liquid with Molly and that stuff was pretty good. Expensive though but it did work for her and we used it while she was attending obedience classes

I used it when my Zpuppy was going into season and I had 2 intact males at the time.  (One has since been neutered)  I wasn't sure if I was working until the 2 weeks were up.  OMG - it was working!!!  It took me one night to realize my first vial had run out (there was still some liquid in it, but it had definately stopped working).

I tried one for my cat once, I didn't see any difference.  They do have clinical trials that show they work however.

We tried one for several months with Sammy, and my mom tried it with her dog and neither of us saw much of a change, if any.

Farnam was good about sending us a full refund if we sent in the receipt and UPC, though.

I'm going to see if they have one at the pet store.  $25 for something that might not work, plus shipping, is a little steep this time of year.  I think I'll definitely get the Rescue Remedy to put in her food.  Or should I call the vet and see if they can give me something for stress?

Rescue Remedy was decent, but you have to know how homeopathics work to get it right -- and I'm always fuzzy so ask Callie!  They have to be tapped to get resonance going?  Then it's how often but not how much you give?  We haven't used it in a few months so I'd search for callie posts or email her.

As for the vet, they gave my mom some sort of "ace" drug (acepromaizne maybe?) that's supposed to be helpful for thunderstorms, etc but then I read somewhere it's really not that good to give them.... so I guess I really have no good advice, other than to make sure to use Rescue remedy corerctly before giving up on it, and to look into acepromazine to decide if thats what you would want before calling the vet....

I have seen Comfort Zone DAP at PetSmart, but I have never used it.

I have a DAP diffuser in my training hall, but I think it would be more useful in a smaller space:-)  I have used Rescue Remedy over the years, and I find it helpful for some, ineffective on others.  Just depends on the dogs.  There are certainly other flower essences to try if you think that's the route you want to go.  My advice is to seek help from a good holistic vet.

ACE is NOT a good drug to use, and I ghigh advise against usuing. it. Hwat it does, is shuts the dogs down on the outside, meanwhile (during a storm or whatever) the dog is still freaking out and panincing inside of his head, but he cannot do anything abou tit. So he is forced to lay there and panic, like he is stuck. Our vet is completely upfront and honest about how it works, and I would never use it on my animals, ever.

The comfort zone DAP works, but not for all dogs, just like rescue remedy. They do sell them at petsmart. I used one with Casey wen I first got him. When I first brought home Jeagar, I sprayed the comfort zone on his blanket and it seemed to calm him down a little, I think the Recue Remedy works better for him. You'll probably have to try both, and see which one works better for you. And remember, what works for one doesn't always work for another.

First I went to Pet Supplies Plus b/c I HATE PetSmart, but they had nothing I needed.  So I went to PetSmart because I knew they had the collar and coat spray I wanted.  I looked at the DAP and it was $47!!!!  No way!  Instead, I got some odorless spray that was half the price and seems to have an even higher concentration of the pheromone.  I looked for Rescue Remedy at both places....no luck.

    Try a health food store.

yikes! I get all mine through the shelter with my fosters. I'm not sure where to get the rescue remedy, maybe at a nutrition/vitamin store?
