    looking for an electric razor

as a christmas gift. now, being a girl - I have no clue what to be looking for! My father has never shaved a day in his life... and would have no where to help me start to look.

I cannot afford something really expensive, I work at an animal shelter! But I want a nice one, that will last him a while.

so... any tips? ideas? brand reccomendations? I would prefer to get one in-store, in leiu of the recent problems I have had ordering another product online.... (Speaking of which, on my way to the post office now...)

I ran into the same problem last year!  Word of advice, go to Wal Mart, they have tonnes of razors and not all of them are insanely expensive.  There are certains brands that stand out in razors (I hope you have the same ones as here)  I know Braun is a very popular brand, Phillips also, here is a link that might help    http://www.shavercentre.com/

i used to not like electric razors. a few years ago my wife bought me a braun synchro, and i love it. i think they quit making it, but there is a newer version out now. not sure what it is called.

I bought one for my boyfriend last year.  And after he opened it he kind of looked at me funny and told me he doesn't use electric razors so it went back lol.

my $0.02... if you can only afford a cheap electric razor, i would rather have a nice regular razor, some nice shaving cream, and aftershave.

i love my gillette mach 3. it gives a nice close shave, no razor burn, and the blades last a long time. i tried the newer gillette fusion. it gave a close shave, but the blade lasted no time. and those blades are quite expensive.

Cyclefiend2000 has it right, cheap electric razors are a waste of money. Electric razors also have a time period that it takes for your skin to get used to them and until then are uncomfortable to use and can cause skin burning.

If he doesn't already use one, get him a Gillette Mach 3. If he already has one get a nice handle upgrade, some shaving soap and a badger bristle brush. You can get them in sets from www.thegentsshop.com/shopsite/bigal.html. He'd probably enjoy that more. I don't know where you might buy something like that instore but it's a gift to think about.

I've been considering an electric razor for my fiance too.  He's an idiot when it comes to shaving and typically leaves it so long, he needs to use his clippers before he can use a razor.  I think if he had an electric one, he may use that more often, but I'm with billy, when it comes to razors, cheap is no good.  My dad's cost my mom about $250 I think.  But he uses it everyday and I dont think he would even shave if he had to use a regular razor.

I wouldn't mind spending that kind of money, if I knew it would last a long time, and do a good job. BF is a dork when it comes to shaving, and his face becomes a bloody mess! I've given him regular razors before (womens razors) and he's liked them, but the blades are expensive to keep replacing every week...I'll look into that Braun Synchro type. He's said he wanted one, so he better use it!

my synchro is  about 6 years old i think. my wife got it for me when they first came out. no problems at all out of it.
