Where does the Frito's smell come from?? (mrstjohnson)

Neither of mine are hounds, and their feet definitely smell like Frito's. Any dog I've ever known has had 'Frito Feet'.

It' s not their whole bodies though....just their feet, so maybe the overall body 'Frito' smell is a hound thing. I'm not sure! Good question though - I've often been curious as well!

Learning something new again, I see!  Wow!  I never heard this before.  I was gonna say, are you sure he didn't eat fritos?  LOL  Interesting topic!

At least the smell is fritos (I love fritos) and not something, like...poo!  Uuuukkkk!

I guess you are right, it isn't is whole body, must be just his feet.  I guess it just seems like that because he sleeps in such a tight ball that when they get warmed up it makes the whole area smell that way.  I did a couple of searches this morning and haven't found anything other than there are a lot of people with frito dogs

 Sniper's feet also smell like fritos, it always cracks me up! She too will seem to smell like a frito all over if she is sleeping in a ball and is really warm, I think the odor just permeates her body.

I just notice it in their feet. Both of them.  It's weird, as I find myself smelling their feet....eeww!  I thought maybe it has to do with sweat?  I know dogs don't sweat but do they sweat or release something through ther paw pads?   

 Hounds have oily coats that can have an odor, but, typically, the Fritos smell comes from their pads - the place where dogs sweat.  Ever notice when your dog is nervous that you can see his prints on the floor?  Equivalent to our "sweaty palms", I guess.
