    Need an appetizer idea...

I am going to my monthly supper club tomorrow night and I am in charge of an appetizer this month.  The main course will be chili.  Anyone have a good idea for something that will go well with chili?

I thought about making some guacamole and taking some chips and just taking that but my husband said I am going to turn into an avacado with as much of it as I eat so anyone have any better ideas?

With chili, I always think of buttered bread sticks (with a little garlic salt on top).

Hmmm, my post dissapeared into cyberspace.  GRRRR someone hacked my recipe...

It was for chilli pepper pinwheels...very yummy... I kinda made it up, but everyone loved it.

If you're looking for a dip, a fast & easy one is to just  dump some salsa (store bought or home made) over an 8 oz. package of cream cheese.

What about cheese bread? As in, toasted bread with melted cheese on top?

One of my favorite appetizers is baked mushroom caps with cream cheese/Parmesan filling. Mmmmmmmmm. Not sure it would go super with chili, though.

I'm also all for guacamole. I'm an all-avocado, all the time kind of girl! :-p

This is actually one of my favorite dips to bring and was the other thing I was thinking of and almost mentioned.  I try not to make it though b/c I tend to stand around and eat it all night and I am trying to make up for gained weight on my diet before I weigh in again next Tuesday.  I suppose I could use FF Cream cheese and LF chips like I do at home.  Hmmmm.....

Stuffed mushrooms sound really good though too!

Something bread sounds great except someone else is responsible for bread.

    Ok.. couple ideas.

A little twist on cornbread with green chilies in it. (can’t find my recipe but prolly can find one online)

On the cheese bread theme, you can add green chilies or green onions with mayo and parm cheese and spread it onto bread and bake it till bubbly

One of my clients just made cranberry salsa last week and I missed out on it at work, but I might be able to get you the recipe. I heard it was fantastic with tortilla chips.

Also, tortillas layered with a mix of cream cheese and salsa, some diced black olives, green onions and a little pimento if you like. Roll it up and slice into pinwheels.

those are the best ones I can think of off the top of my head for chili....

I think of chili as a spicy food, so I would prefer a smoother, cooler appetizer, like the quacamole or the cream cheese/salsa.

What about a layered dip? Looks pretty and tastes good, too! Here's one recipe idea: http://www.grouprecipes.com/15999/six-layer-dip.html

Actually, you can make salsa with just about any fruit - except maybe bananas. Smile You can use raspberries (fresh or thawed) and dice them up and do it pretty much the same way you would if you were using tomatoes.  Put in diced red onion, cilantro, maybe a bit of cayenne pepper and some orange peel.  Or use a big can of well drained crushed pineapple and add the same stuff, plus a little squeeze of lime juice.  The possibilities with all the different fruits and melons are endless.

How 'bout cream cheese filled wontons? yum...and easy!

Fruit salsa is good with cinnamon chips - take round flour tortillas, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, and bake until crispy.

Well, since I had an electrician here until 3 and my house and kitchen was in a shambles, I decided to clean it up and make something easy.  I made the cream cheese dip but I bought a pineapple salsa instead of regular and I got blue corn chips.  It smells really good.  I can't wait to eat it!  Lots of great ideas, especially the fruit salsa ones....that inspired me.  I will bookmark this thread for the next time I have to take an appetizer.  I also have a pot luck type dinner in another week that I might try some of these ideas for!  Thanks for all the awesome ideas!
