Baby question (g33)

    Baby question (g33)

Every morning when Shannon wakes up, her head is scaly and peely and she has a rash on her forehead and the sides of her face. It goes away during the day but always comes back each morning. It seems to be on the parts of her face/head that rub against the sheets when she turns her head at night. Her bedding is washed in Dreft. Also, she slept in her Pack N Play the other day and the same thing happened. It doesn't happen when she's only down for a few hours for a nap. I load her up with lotion after a bath and each morning and it always helps it go away but I'd like to prevent it, if possible! I see her pediatrician Monday so I can ask then also. Anyone else notice this on their little ones?

It is probably cradle cap.  Riley had it for a while and still does every once in a while.  The really only way to prevent it is to put a little baby oil on her head, but then she will have greasy hair.  From what I read, there is nothing you are doing that is causing it, it's just going to happen.

William got it too.  I just baby oiled his head before bed.  He did get greasy hair but I washed it out well the next day and he was fine.  I've had to do it a few times.  If I don't his head goes to look a bit scaly/scabby instead of just flaky and I think thats just too many layers of dry skin.  I recently discovered Aloe Vera gel.... not just a moisturiser with a bit of AV in, but the actual jelly taken from the centre of the aloe leaf.  Pricey but by gum its good stuff!  Thats good all over actually, from sore bums to cradle cap to dry patches to chapped mouth when teething...

Ya, its annoying more than anything.  Baby Oil works.  I used to oil Kali's scalp before I put her in the bath and then use a comb and comb it out.  She loved the feel of it.  Just remember its not your fault.  Most babies get it at one time or another and eventually they all grow out of it as far as I know.

Chuffy... aloe vera huh?  I have some of that in the fridge for sunburns.  Never even thought of using it on Kali.  Her skin has become pretty dry on her chest as of late.  And the only creams I have around here are the crazy perfumed ones I use after a bath, and Kale's medicated ones(eczema).  Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for the tips! I'll give the AV a try first...then the baby oil. If only this kid would keep a hat on her head at nite!

i will say that i stopped washing my kids clothing in Dreft... my oldest was the worst for getting diaper rashes - still is under the right conditions - but the frequency of the outbreaks have gone down a lot since i stopped using that stuff and Shane has yet to have a rash(knocking on wood!!).. i also dont use baby wipes anymore.... i wash their clothes in normal detergent and wipe them off with a damp paper towel.

so far so good.. i try to limit the chemicals and have decided that a lot of the "KIDS ONLY" stuff is hoaky....

I will confess that I never washed Riley's clothes in Dreft.  I normally use the dye free/scent free stuff anyway and she has never had a problem.  I do use the baby wipes but the dye free/scent free ones too.

Yeah, we never used dreft. We use all free and clear(I think that's what its called) on all our clothes. And the bounce purfumeless dryer sheets. The biggest benefit to this is that its SO much cheaper than dreft. We haven't had any major skin issues.

Sounds like an allergic reaction.  Maybe try the other baby detergent...uh, um, snow...something...heck I forget, it's been a long time.  Good Luck!  Hope she feels better!
