I'm finding a new home for Penny (2shelties)

Well, have found already, hopefully. I am meeting with a family on Sunday who have one other dog and three acres of land. I've checked them out pretty well, so it'll just depend on how the dogs get along. It was a very difficult decision...for those who don't know, I found her stray about three months ago and and she was in pretty bad shape. I brought her home and got her vet care, vacs, heartworm and flea preventative, and had hoped to keep her, but three dogs is overwhelming for me right now. We are having financial difficulties and I was having trouble coming up with the money to get her spayed, plus she needs professional training I think, and I don't know when I'll have the money for that....alot of other things too, she just needs more time and attention than I could give her and she is extremely different in personality than my shelties. She and Frosty get along great, but Ripley is stressed out and the cats are stressed out and having litter box issues.

It was a difficult decision, but I've been looking for a new home for her for about three weeks now. I hope these people will work out, but if not I will keep her until I find a good place for her. Just wanted to let you all know.

Hopefully everything will work out for you and Penny!  I wish you both lots of luck.  Three dogs isn't easy and finances can be overwhelming, its wonderful that you took her in, gave her love and are finding her a new home.  That is more than many people would do and I commend you.

I remember the day you first posted about Penny wondering if she was a stray and if you should call Animal Control.   You brought her in and brought her back from the brink - you showed her the meaning of love and you should be proud.

I hope the new family turns out to be perfect for her - we'll be keeping fingers and paws crossed for a "happily ever after" ending to the story.

Penny's new family came and picked her up tonight. Her new name is going to be Sasha. I was worried at first...she barked and growled and acted nutty when they got here, and I thought for a minute they were going to change their minds, but she eventually got comfortable enough to leave with them. I brought Frosty out to play with her and that loosened her up a bit, then I leashed her and handed the leash to the woman, and she walked her around outside. Once they were outside she relaxed alot and let the woman pet her and pick her up.

I won't be able to relax until I hear that she settled in ok though. They seem like really good people, I just hope Penny behaves herself. From what they said, their dog is very similar. She is super sweet with me and my kids, so hopefully she will relax at their house soon enough. I admit I am borderline freaking out right now....it was obvious tonight how much she had bonded with me, and I hope I did the right thing. I am fighting the urge to call every 10 minutes and say, "Is she doing ok?"..."How bout now?" Argh.

I'd probably be the same way.   Just remember the old sayings "no news IS good news" and "bad news travels fast".   Keep us posted when you do hear from them.

Crossing my fingers and hoping that everything goes well! You did a great job by getting her off the street and into a home where she could get healthy and be a dog!

I hope everyone gets along and the new home works out! 3 is the number of the beast sometimes! That's when relationships get more complicated with multi dogs, IMO.

Things definitely got much more difficult with #3. We haven't totally given up on the idea of three dogs, but we need to wait for the right time and the right dog. Alot of things just weren't right this time. 1) Timing...both of our shelties are under a year old. Anyone who values their sanity would say no to three puppies. Plus this was unexpected. We didn't plan for a dog with issues and save up money. 2) Outside influences...DH lost his job about 2 months ago. I didn't really mention it, but that's where our money troubles came from. He's got a new job now though. 3) Fit...we need a dog that gets along with cats and is not crazy hyper. Penny had the cats stressed, and even Ripley.

Anyway, it'll be a while. I haven't heard anything yet, but on my end the cats are already more relaxed and all is calm and quiet.

Got an email from Penny's new mom. She is doing good and is playing and getting along great with their other dog.
