More on food and UTI issues

So, my kitty went to emergency for a blockage. The xray and urinary culture showed no crystals or bacteria. Either way, he was blocked with blood so the vet put him on prescription food. I just don't like this stuff and think that it is way over priced. However, when I asked about it in a vet email group, I about got my head bit off for even questioning if I should use this food or find something else.

So, I called my vet and they said what the prescription food really does is keep the pH balanced. OK, that makes sense (that's all the vet email group had to say btw!). What other products are out there that will help with pH? I read the other thread and the consensus seems to be Wellness and Purina One. The cat needs to be strictly on wet food now as he doesn't drink water at all (I've tried everything).

The cat group I belong to seems to suggest Wellness or Max cat.  I went to max cat for a while because my female got a UTI.

My cat has been eating that urinary prescription food for almost two years. I have stopped the diet 2 times and had to run after 3 weeks with a cat peeing drops everywhere with blood, polyps and crystals... The vet prescribes 15 days of 250mg of vitamin C and the diet and my Zarina gets better. I'll not change her diet until february, but I think the vet will keep her on that. I can give them treats and maybe a few little pellets of friskies, but no more Sad

Since getting off prescription food, I've started feeding my cats Wysong Uretic along with wet food and it seems to be working well.
