Coupons -> free dog food, donate to shelters!

Just in case anyone is interested, there were two coupons for FREE dog food in yesterdays paper - though I know there was only one in some other area's papers.

One was for 2 lb container of Purina One natural blends and the other was for a 4 lb bag of  food from the (new) Goodlife Recipe.  They could be used for either cat or dog food varieties.  I just thought it was a good way to get some food for the shetlers!  That is what I will be doing with the free food.

Just a heads-up in case anyone else didn't see them and is interested in the free food.....  I meant to post yesterday but forgot.

Too bad I'm not in PA.  But, I do keep a look out in the flyers that come to our house.  Sometimes a really good deal on dog food will come up and I'll pick up a bag.  This of course confused a coworker of mine who knew I don't have a dog yet....then I explained "for the shelters".  :)

It wasn't just in PA - they came in the NY papers as well.  Its in the usual Sunday paper coupons section that a vast number of papers have.  Its just that there's different "varieties" in each paper so they aren't 100% exactly the same.  So in Pittsburgh I had two free ones, but my mom in Buffalo only had the purina.

But yeah I know the things you mean, I do the same even though I have a dog.....  sometimes I  mix in free bags if it's a decent food, but if I'm going by the shelter I will drop it off for them.

I hit up all my coworkers and called a fellow shelter volunteer.  I am hoping to come up with thirty pounds (or more!) of each type of food. Wish me luck![:)]

Good deal!!  Almost be worth it to see what the newspaper companies do with old papers and if they will donate the extra coupons.  I know stoers send the newspapers back to the companies for credits, but where they go from there is a mystery.  Wonder who you could call?

Wouldn't that be nifty?  you could buy out the entire stocks of these foods!!!

Hey Nicole, thanks for the heads up on the coupons.  I stopped in to my favorite local place for lunch today. What did I see while I was waiting?  The Sunday paper complete with the ads.  I grabbed the coupons.

    Good deal Annie!

So Pittsburgh got two free ones... one for something called Goodlife Recipe and the one for Purina One Naturals.  So I saw the Goodlife Recipe today in the supermarket, and was so disappointed in the ingredient list it isn't funny.  ground corn, chicken by-products, animal fat were all in the top few ingredients, with ground corn being the #1 and corn  also appeared somewhere else a few ingredients down the list.  I hope the shelter will use it!  I was at least hoping for meat being the first ingredient.... sigh.  What else can I expect for free?

It was going to the shelter no matter what, but now I certainly would never feed it to Sammy so it's definitely going.
