Who would you leave you dogs to if you died?

Jen, I really prefer to have Max find things I haven't delt with already, but whatever makes him happy. :o)

Silly girl! You know I'd take Willy and Waylon in a heartbeat! (Choo-Choo to!)

Kitty wouldn't make it around here or I'd take her to! She would be appalled at having to share her litter pan with the other SIX! :)

Uh oh...I have it in writing now!  heehee...

You'd be great for Kitty seeing how you seem to attract special needs cats!

I actually just put something in writing with this sort of thing.  If I were to die, my SO would get all the animals, cats, dogs, and horse.  If we both were to die, my very good friend would be left in charge.  I actually wrote her a letter explaining my wishes.  She is welcome to keep any and all the animals, I would trust her completely to care for them.  If for some reason she is unable to take them then it would go as follows,
Dasher - back to breeder, I know she would take him or find a good home for him.
Lille - SO's mom would take her
Freddie and Rocky (cats) - my mom
Casey (horse) - again, my friend would have first dibbs.  She also has a horse so she would be welcome to keep Casey as a pasture mate for her guy.  If she did not want Casey I asked that she be donated to my high school (same friend and I went to HS and college together)  Our HS has an amazing riding program and a beautiful horse facility, Casey would be in good hands there as well.

I have already cleared it with the people that my dogs are to go to, and have it in writing as well. I actually need to email it or print and take to them though. There are specifications for what to do if something happens to both my husband and me, or different specs as to what to do if something JUST happens to me.

As an aside, a few of the people on my list to take one or more of my dogs also have ME on their list to take one or more of THEIR dogs. [;)]

And here is the fun part of this... If a certain three of my friends die in a car wreck or something... I will go from the fab four to the fab 16! [sm=blush.gif] I'd do it if I had to... But really I told them to not take any vacations or plane rides together! [sm=crazy.gif] Luckily they aren't terribly close.

PS Emily... you will now be required to schedule your vacations with me! [sm=biggrin.gif]

I'm seriously going to have to think about this and put it in writing.

I just can't figure out who would be a strong enough leader for Romy and who would be up for handling her dominance issues, or whether I should split them up or not.  Romy is easier to deal with as a single dog, but Winston adores her.

my dad already loves emma, even though when i first got her 5 days ago  he immediately told me to take her  back.  but i dont think any of my family or friends would be able to care for her if something happened to me.  she would probably wind up back at the pound?  good thing nothing is likely to happen to me.

Bleh...  I honestly don't have anyone in my family/life that would take my Slicky.   Actually, my sister would probably do it, but it wouldn't be a good life.  I think I'll need to arrange for him to go back to his breeder.  I definitely need to do something in writing to absolutely assure that he will never end up in a shelter.

I don't know actually-I think that if I died my fiancee would take Lily and Charlie, but if we both died, i don't think that I would trust anyone else.  Is that horrible if I want them buried with me?

I carry a copy of my will behind the student ID in my wallet.  All it really is is a provision for Kahaus.  I listed out the possible homes for him (13 or 14 possibilities + their phone #s), said that all money left in my bank account goes to his care (because I don't do that whole debt thing), and left his co-owner in charge of which of the homes he goes to or finding him a new home if no one on my list is willing or capable.

I know Blue will go to my brother since Blue loves my brother so much I will just have to make sure Blue gets the right food and treats. Mocha will have to go to my mom since she has no kids and Mocha can get along with Eli. Mocha just can't seem to like no one else, but me he wont even let my cousin near him anymore and she saved him!!

As for Tigger well I have no ideal what to do with him since he hates my brother and no else in my family or friends like rodents and him.  I don't think our shelter would take in a chinchilla anyways.   Poor evil Tigger has no one else but me. Well here is hoping I don't die before Tigger goes.

I'll take Trigger...just make sure he comes with a water bottle he can't destroy.[:)]
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah Tigger might have another home if I happen to die!

I don't know if that kind of waterbottle exist in this world. I'm going to be ordering a glass water bottle hope it holds up to the all mighty water bottle destroyer. Now if only they have stronger food/hay hoppers.  Tigger killed the metal screening off that one. He's so EVIL!!

I have directives in my will to take care of this.  Since I seem to get those elkhounds with medical issues, I have a lump sum designated to take care of any animals I have if I die.  This includes lifetime medical, food, etc.  If my current furkids have medical problems and the people that want to adopt them can't afford their care, this is also addressed in my will.  The money is available to them.  I don't want ANY of my animals to miss a 2nd chance with a great family just because said family could not afford to pay the vet bills.

I used Mickey as an example when I had my attorney draw up my will.  In 2003, I spent $3,200.00 (and some odd change) on him alone for veterinary bills and medications (and I get a discount!).  This year so far he is pushing $1,800.00 and it looks like he will be going back to see his favorite people again next week [sm=sad.gif].  Hopefully, it will only be an office visit and blood draw.
