    dogs and gardens

Is it possible to have a puppy and a garden and if so, can someone please give me some ideas on types of plants to use or direct me to some websites or books. Our garden was a disaster before we got our pup but now I would like to plan it with the dog inmind. Any ideas would be terrific as I'm having a hard time trying to convince hubby its not a lost cause. What have some people done.

I didn't even consider that there might be a problem with dogs and gardens. For several years I had a BIG veggie garden. It was feequented by tiny garden snakes, which was not a big deal because they kept the insect popultaion down.

Until...(enter Jaws theme song) I was picking a cucumber and put my hands into a nest of baby ones. I swear, there were hundreds of them- all crawling up my legs and arms. It was like a horror movie. The next year I didn't garden- lol.

I first started thinking about getting a dog in relation to my newfound fear of snakes. I truely hope to have a veggie garden this year and that my Heidi and Sally will protect me from the long legless evil ones.

Oh . . .My . . .GOD, I'm surprised you went back ever! I've not noticed snakes in ours, but we do have mice. We cover the garden in hay, and they just love it. We try and keep the dogs out so they won't dig up the plants and poop in there, but DH is constantly fighting a losing battle to keep Gracie out. I look out and see her happily tossing a dead mouse up in the air like it's a frisbee now and then.
