Work or Cruel?

It might be educational for you to attend a weight-pull event and get a first-hand view of this. Pulling is not a sport that you can get a dog who hates to participate in- they have to WANT to do it. Most dogs LIKE to pull (on leash, in harness, whatever :P) and although the big weights are what you see on videos because they're more impressive, there *are* people competing at lower levels- but it really is amazing how strong dogs are. (This, btw, is one of the reasons I get cranky when I see people imitating the Caesar-Milan-rollerblade-with-multiple-dogs, because that is SO an accident waiting to happen.)

Well thats one thing we can say with certainty, those dogs are STRONGER!! than I ever would have imagined!

I don't know if its cruel or not, I'm leaning toward cruel.

PWCA has a great idea...perhaps witnessing something like this in person...from start to finish and judging the dogs body language...before, during, and after...is the best way to really get an idea of how the pooches feel about it. It certainly helped me form an opinion.

If you'd like to attend one I or likely others as well, could happily point out some dates, places and times if you give us a region or state. Always happy to spread the word about fun dog events like weight pull...as I said...even small breeds can have fun with it. I keep hoping to see it on TV, maybe on that show they have on AP at times, featuring dog events of all kinds.
