So, I decided to institute a version of NILF with Thor, I guess that is what you would call it. When he eats now, he has to sit *calmly* and "wait" before he can approach his bowl. When I started this a couple days ago I was having to stand in front of his bowl and block him from getting to it, using my knees as bumper pads.
Then he would sit and wait by himself, but he was
not calm. He would have his ears perked and would sit leaned forward so he could get as close to the bowl as possible. Well this morning, and this evening when I fed him, both times he sat immediately after I put his bowl on the ground, about 2 feet away from it, and waited for about 15-20 seconds both times before being released by "okay!"
I am also teaching him to sit and WAIT at a door before he is released, again with "okay!" to exit. This too, has only taken about 3 or 4 tries to get my point across. Tonight, when I let him out for his before bed potty break, he immediately went to the door, sat without me telling him to, and then waiting until I released him to go outside. I am very proud of my pooch! I am super excited to start clicker training with him, I feel like he will pick it up quickly.
