A BAD VET!!!!!help!!! need suggestions. disrecpectful!

We just got back from taking our dog to this clinic to get her booster shots and I should say that our experience there will be and unforgettable one! We have never been treated as badly as we were treated there! First of all, we have a 1yr old female Australian Sheppard mix. My sister took her to this clinic for her rabies and parvo shots last year so when I received a reminder card that she's due for boosters I took her back there again. Our dog mostly stays inside the house, but don't get me wrong.. we do take her out for walks and to the park to play. We love our dog and we give her everything she needs. We pay as much as we have when we have to. Anyway, back to my story.. THE VETERINARIAN AT THIS CLINIC WAS SO DISRESPECTFUL! I went w/ my sister and my 7yr old niece. When we were all in the room and he was preparing the shots, my niece asked me why our dog was breathing the way she was. And the Vet interrupted saying, "She's probably scared to death!" May I remind you that that's a kid he was talking to. He told us to put the muzzle on our dog and we did. Then he said that she might act up so he told my sister to take my niece outside. And so my sister took her out and I was left in the room w/ our dog and the vet. And as he took the leash from my hand he commented, "This is a poor behaved dog!" I thought to myself (What's he talking about?) And began giving our dog the first shot. First of all, I have never seen a veterinarian at work w/ no assistants to hold the dog down. He held her leash as he gave her the shot and as my dog tried to get away due to fear and it looked like he was practically strangling her. And so he gave the 2nd shot. When he was all finished, he threw her leash on the floor and yelled out, "I DON'T EVER WANNA SEE THIS DOG AGAIN!" and left the room. As I removed the muzzle from our dog, I still heard the veterinarian yelling but couldn't really understand what he was saying until I got out of the room. I saw an old lady pointing at the door saying, "GET OUT!" And as I walked to the desk to pay, the lady asked the vet if he gave her the shots and he replied w/ "YES I GAVE HER THE SHOTS BUT I'M NEVER GONNA WORK ON HER AGAIN!" So my sister and I wondered why they were all acting like that. When suddenly the lady at the desk said they think we beat up our dog! How could they say such a thing when we never lay a hand on her!!! And so my sister said to her, "We don't appreciate you making assumptions that we beat up her dog. She's just not used to new people." And all she could say was.. "Well we've seen dogs like that before and their owners used to beat them up." So I got mad and said, "WELL WE DON'T DO THAT! HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT! AND EVEN IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TAKE HER AGAIN I WOULDN'T BRING HER BACK HERE ANYWAY! WE SHOULD'VE TAKEN HER SOMEWHERE ELSE INSTEAD!" I gotta say.. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN DISRESPECTED BY ANYONE THE WAY THEY DISRESPECTED US! AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A VETERINARIAN BEHAVE THAT WAY... EVER!!! THAT WAS SO UNPROFESSIONAL! I can't believe I made them $61 richer. WE SHOULD'VE TAKEN OUR DOG SOMEWHERE ELSE. WE DIDN'T DESERVE TO BE TREATED THAT WAY. Maybe they were prejudice maybe even racist. Who knows why they're like that. But seriously, there are lots of friendly vets out there. Take your time searching cause the PEOPLE HERE ARE VERY MEAN!!! Our dog didn't even do anything. SHE WAS JUST SCARED OF THEM. I can't blame her.

WE LOVE OUR DOG! How dare them assume that we beat her up!! Does our dog even look abused?? We take care of her so good that it hurts for people to even accuse us of laying a hand on her. We would NEVER do such a thing! She's like our kid!

Is there a way to report this clinic? or even just to complain about them? I wouldn't want them to treat anyone like how they treated us. I really need someone's suggestions and thoughts on this. Thank You.

Im so sorry you had that experience, that sounds terrible!  I would have been so upset too!  First of all I think the stink I would have raised in there would have let anyone around know what had just happened to me.

I think you should call everyone you can, the BBB, whoever regulates the vets in your area, the mayor, whoever... OH call the news!!  That would be a good idea.  I would tell as many people as I could!

I know you will find a vet that you like... and again, Im sorry that you and your dog had to go through that!

To my eye your dog does not fit the profile of an abused dog.
You can report this clinic to the BBB and to the Adminstration of Vetrinarian Affairs of how you were treated and what you feel is not professional about this clinic. I have delt with many vets in my life time and have never come across an unprofessional one who would blurt out what this vet did. I have seen abuse cases and my vet has dealt with them in a very calm assertive manner behind closed doors and not in public view.
I am sorry you had to go through something as traumatic as this.

Yikes!  Do a search to find the mumber for the Veterinary Board for your state and report them.

    Here, I found the link.

May I know what BBB stands for or what it is? I'll do anything to report them. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR RESPONSES! I appreciate all your comments.

Better Business Bureau  as to finding a new vet.  Find some local dog obedience classes (Go and observe)  You might even want to sign up for some to help your dog learn to deal with new situations.  At any rate, the folks teaching the classes and the folks taking classes are bound to have some suggestions on other vets in your area.

I know I made a mistake by not socializing her with other people and dogs while she was a puppy but it was only because before we had her, we had experiences with losing her brother, Harvey, from parvo. We only had him for a week and the first day was the only day he was playful and the second day when we took him to the vet to get his vaccinations we found out he's been having parvo. He was with us for only a week and most of the time he was in the hospital. We were depressed when we lost him. So when we got Lily, we wanted nothing to happen to her.We didn't want to lose another one. And how this vet treated us and assume that we hit our dog just makes me so angry... But yes I will try to take her to an obedience class. But I really don't think she was doing anything to this vet.. I still can't believe how he acted the way he did. She was just scared and she wasn't even growling or even trying to bite him. She was just trying to get away from him. I don't know why he had to treat us like that... That was really mean.

Some of these clinics are owned/managed by someone other than the vet you might see.  If you could find out, you could write a letter to the owner.  I had to do that last summer.  I ended up getting a reply back apologizing for how long we waited ("but Saturdays are our busiest days") and for some of the other problems.  I knew we were never going back, but I felt like I'd at least documented the problem.

Heres a link to the Better Business Bureau, you can file a complaint online or call.

If the experience was that horrible, I'd certainly want to report them as well. Also, while you're looking into a new vet, you might want to check with the BBB to see who has or hasn't been reported. Just a thought.

Write a letter to the owner of the clinic and cc the BBB.  If you bring it to the attention of the BBB I believe that the clinic has to respond to the complaint or the clinic will lose any recommendation that the BBB would award.  That is completely inappropriate and the vet needs to be called on it.

Make sure you let the BBB know everything that has happened.  However, you need to change "nozzle" to "muzzle".  A nozzle is something that goes on the end of a hose!

Check with your neighbors too.  They may know of a clinic in your area that is more reasonably priced and is friendlier! FWIW, you can buy the vaccinations yourself (ecxcept for rabies) and vaccinate your animals yourself if you're comfortable  with that.  It will cost you a heck of a lot less than $61.00!

I don't get it, how did he go from saying she was probably scared to death, to saying she was a poor behaved dog to saying she's abused???  I'm confused.
