A happy ending for a shelter dog

So, for the past couple weeks there's been this dog at the shelter that I fell in love with. She is a border collie and I've never seen a dog act as aggressive as she did in her cage. If you so much as walked past her cage you would think she wanted to tear your throat out, she would constantly lunge and bark and snarl at you. BUT, as soon as you took her out she was a complete love and got along with everyone. The problem was simple, she didn't get more than 15 minutes outside a day and she was going crazy having to be locked up. Last saturday I was over at the shelter helping out and I took her out to run for a good long time, throwing the ball for her and loving on her. Of course I was thinking how I could possibly fit another foster in my house if she went on the "Last Day" list. After I got done at the shelter I went to petco where we were showing our foster dogs for a couple hours,,,,and guess who walked into petco about three hours after I got there? YUP, it was HER!!!! With her new owners and doggy sibling. They had come into the shelter to see another Border collie mix that we had just adopted out that morning and at first they walked right past this precious girls cage just like everyone else because she was doing her "I hate you" act, but one of our volunteers convinced them to take her out and they fell in love with her. They live on a farm where they actually use their BC to herd sheep and they're hoping to train this one to do the same, the dogs do live outside and typically we dont adopt to people who dont have their dogs live inside but this was a special circumstance. They brought their dog to meet her and he is a gorgeous, well taken care of, very obedient BC and of course the two dogs got along famously. I cannot tell you how rare it is in my city to find a home that can not only handle a hyper BC but also be able to provide it with the work it was made to do. I'm just so happy, here is an e-mail we just got from her new owners. The pictures weren't attached to this e-mail, otherwise I would have posted them. If i happen to get them I'll post them here for ya'll to see

I am writing to update you on the border collie we
    > rescued this weekend from the pound. I am attaching
    > some pictures if you would like to look.
    >
    > I took her into the vet (West Michigan Veterinary
    > Service) today and she is on antibiotics for kennel
    > cough, until it clears the vet won't give her
    > anymore shots. Also the vet checked her abdomen to
    > see if she may have already been spayed. He said
    > that she has some tightness around her umbilicus
    > which could be an indication that she may already be
    > spayed. I told him that we rescued her this weekend
    > from the pound and that our agreement is to have her
    > spayed. His recommendation is to wait to see if she
    > comes into heat before doing exploratory surgery.
    > Please let me know what you would like me to do in
    > this regard as I support having her spayed but also
    > wouldn't want her to have unnecessary surgery
    > either.
    >
    > Other than that she is doing great and having a
    > ball running around the farm. She has some work to
    > do to get in shape though as she is pooped out long
    > before our other dog warms up, (although the kennel
    > cough could be to blame as well). Otherwise, she is
    > well mannered and adjusting to her new life without
    > a problem. We are happy to have found such a great
    > new friend!

That is so wonderful! I volunteered at our shelter for a while a few years ago, and we had a dog like that. Very vicious acting in his kennel, snarling and lunging at anyone that dared pass by. As soon as you took him out though, he was a complete teddy bear. It was hard to convince potential adopters that he was so sweet when he was snarling at them from behind bars, but in the end he did get a home!
I truly hope this BC has a wonderful life with his new family![:)]

Ok, well I just got the pictures,,,not the best quality but you can see how much room she has to run. It's kinda funny because her new owners say she is really laid back and doesn't mind her crate at all,,,amazing how much difference being in a family can make in just a week.
