Stainless vs Ceramic

I like ceramic dishes (thick, heavy ones) because they are too heavy to push around and tip.

I've used stainless for twenty-five years, for all the reasons posted, plus durability! I think a couple dishes are 25 years old! In the old days some of my Australian Cattle Dogs liked to turn their bowls over after dinner and push them around, sliding all over the kitchen floor with a tremendous racket. Great fun! Glass or ceramic would have been toast. I've always washed the dog's bowls after every feeding, right after I washed my dirty dishes. I also wash my parrot's dishes daily. Never gave it much thought, when I wash the dishes, I wash ALL the dishes.

My parrots dishes get scalded every morning.

My first choice is stainless, however Misty is scared to death of the stainless (sees her reflection) so we use ceramic baking dishes that I no longer use!  I figured if they were safe to bake in and serve food in, they'd be fine for her.   They look a bit like this one:

For years we used two large plastic dog bowls for Stevie and Hunter. Then Hunter passed on, and Stevie used one for water and one for food. Then I got Sofia and she used Hunter's bowl for food. When Stevie passed away I decided to retire the bowls finally, after, what, almost 20 years?

No problems with bacteria, no chin zits.

I got Sofia some stainless bowls of her very own and I can't bear to throw away those bowls! So they are going out on my balcony as bird feeders! I don't think the birds will get chin zits. [:D]
