Hold me BACK, Talk me Down HELP!!

Ok so as some of you know I manage a hotel that allows dogs. We just had a very nice family check in with a Border Collie and they have no clue as to how to own a dog.
The open the van door and the dog darts out into the driveway, the lady didnt even give the dog a second look, she proceeded to gather the kids. The BC ran up to a leashed golden whom was wary as her owners were trying to restrain the golden and keep the unkown collie at bay. They asked the lady if it was her dog and she said yes and just walked into the office. I asked her to please gather and leash her dog. She yelled at one of the kids to do so and after chasing the dog around for a couple of minutes they caught her. I told her it was ok to ring her in the office, which she did and the dog jumped all over me....no biggie UNTIL it started jumping and nipping at teh ladies chest, she laughed and brushed it off. I said have you tried a gentle leader and she proceeded to show me the worn off strip above the dogs nose where the GL cuts into her nose UGH! She said they alternate between a GL and a choke chain.....the chke chain is for when the kids (all looked to be under 11) walk the dog. No obediance classes, dosnt even know how to sit. UGHHH hold me back i-doggers I just wanna steal her dog, train it for a week and give it back

You are a better person than I...I wouldn't give the dog back to that family....

I hate so many dog owners...it is unbelievable...never fails to amaze me!!! [:@]

Your hotel lobby should have a whole rack of brochures for local dog trainers. Then you can just sigh and point. [sm=lol.gif]

I do have a list of dog friendly resteraunts, hotels, and dog parks....I will defintly look into that. Dotn get me wrong, it isnt all bad I see so many great families with dogs ad it brightens my day. Last week we had a lady come in with her Rottweiler and her 7 puppies who were only 5 weeks, ah I spent so much time on the lawn playing with the lil guys and she didnt mind paying the extra $150 for the carpet cleaning, he he!
We have a Cavalier Spaniel family who has 4 of them and they are so obediant! Its a great sight to see them all walking calmly in a row like lil ducks!
I think my fav is the family who brings their Cane Corso because its rare to see them and the dog Bella, actualyl herds the children of they get to close to the street THAT is amazing!
We have one VERY fearful aussie mix who cringes at everything. Her owners work so hard and it has been inspiring to see her progress over teh past 2 years. The first time I met her she barked and lunged as I tried to walk to her directly and pet her on the head. Since then I have learned to ignore her at first and hold my hand out to the side as a invitation whie enot looking at her at all. A year ago that same dog approached me by a roundabout approach, she walked the whole wall and came up behind em and sniffed me. I ignored her. AND the last time she was here I had treats and she cautiously approached me head on and actually took the treat!

Wow!!! I would taken the dog away and given it to a family that deserves it! You must love and hate your job at times! It is good to know that you see more good owners than bad! I agree it would be a great idea to have local trainer info around for the people like this.

Wow, you did so much better than I would have....I don't know how you held your tongue.

Ouch.  I give you so much credit for your restrained response (and for not kidnapping...rather dognapping).  It really irks me to see poorly trained dogs with owners who are completely and utterly ignorant....PLUS using things like choke chains and GL inappropiately.

Let's not get into the fact she has a high energy drive dog on her hand with small children...

Add a stupid owner tax to the bill.  Say it's for letting the dog run unrestrained in the parking lot and allowing it to harass the other guests.  Be sure to clip the business card to a trainer from her area onto the bill.

I know how it is with unruly dogs in hotels. See, we stay in hotels almost year round due to DH's job. I have had many problems with unleashed dogs running around the hotel while Radar is on a leash attemping to relieve himself. I mean, I get so aggravated at people who have dogs and allow them to run loose in public areas! I never allow Radar to roam offleash unless we are at a DogPark. There are too many risks. If people plan on staying in a hotel with there dog(s), they need to give the dogs some manners...and be more responsible!

Oh my goodness, what a disaster! I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a Border Collie is the WRONG breed for that family. [;)] They require even more training/chanelling of their energy than most breeds.

    That's so cute!
