my dog is sick and the vets don't know what it is!

HELP! my dog is sick. he is inactive, has a little bit of a runny nose, been throwing up, his poop is hard (poked w. stick)and  he isn't responsive as much as he should be. he is a small mini Australian Shephard pure. he is three going on four and he's lived with us most of his life. we think it did something with the food he ate yesterday. he had ham, probably found some cat food, and my dad accidentally gave him a cooked bone. is there anything we can do and does anyone know what it is (name of illness)????[sm=cry.gif]

So, you took him to the vet and the vet did nothing?  The symptoms your describing could be from any number of things really.   The bone could of really upset his stomach and the poop is probably hard from the bone.  Bone will firm up poop.

Your dog needs to be seen NOW by a vet.  Find an emergency vet and get going.  The ham may be the cause of the dry stool....very high sodium, but it sounds very much to me like this dog has an impaction from the cooked bone.  This is a life threatening situation.  Go.

Well, what did the vet say was wrong?

We can't diagnose over the internet, because we can't see your dog and most of us aren't vets. Your dog could die if it is the cooked bone blocking him. If your dad won't pay for an x-ray to see what's going on, I don't know what we could do....I wish I could help![:(]

It might not be that, but only a vet can really help your dog!

If you need an emergency vet and can't pay, visit these sites that might help:
    www.help-a-pet.org
    www.imom.org
    www.uan.org
There are other charities that might help, and there's something called Care Credit that can put the payments on time for you.
No dog should die because his owner can't afford vet care.  If your dog survives, start saving your change or even $5 a week, but don't let this happen again!  Vet care is part of the responsibility of having a pet.

I agree with seeking veterinary care, do whatever is needed.
Care Credit is a great option for financial assistance.  Also, there is a program by AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) [linkhttp://www.aahanet.org]www.aahanet.org[/link] which has a fund to help pet owners with finances.
