I was just now sitting here wondering what to do about my neighbor's barking dog when I saw this thread! I live in an apartment complex and there's a very yappy Pekingese right next door... She doesn't bark for hours on end, but she does bark each and every time someone walks by or opens any door on all three levels of this complex. With four apartments on each level, it's pretty frequent that someone is leaving or coming home. This dog stands RIGHT next to the door and has this shrill bark that carries.[&o] When I'm sitting in my living room I can hear the dog yapping its head off. And it's really annoying to have a dog barking at you coming home to YOUR apartment- whether it's in the afternoon, evening, or 2:00 in the morning there's rarely a break from the little nuisance barker.

I 100% blame the owners. This morning I came back from running some errands and happened to park next to one of the dog's owners sitting in the driver's seat and the dog in the car. So the dog is at the window barking at me, yapping it's head off and the man just sits there. And did I mention that the dog travels loose in the car- like in the back window. Do they not realize that even if they just slam on the brakes that the dog will become a flying missile? Sigh..... Another time as they were pulling into the parking lot I could see the dog barking at every car that went by. How on earth do the owners put up with that!?[:o] It's absolutely ridiculous for a dog to bark almost constantly. It really annoys me also when people say that it's just "the dog using their voice". Yeah, it's their voice, but it's the equivalent of letting your kid yell and scream all the time.

So anyway, I've been wondering whether I should call my apartment office and complain or just deal with it. I'm getting really irritated with dog owners in general. I've seen so many people being DRAGGED around by their big dogs on leash and it's like, does anybody even train their dogs anymore? Even my best friend who has a Coonhound doesn't even walk her dog because "he pulls too hard". She's a meek person and he's a very big, stubborn hound that she can barely control. I've given all the advice I can give for years (she's only had this dog for about a year but her family always had big dogs) and I've finally given up. Well, sorry for all the complaining! It's only 12:00 in the afternoon and I feel like I need a drink! [&:]

Gosh, I got so carried away with my venting that I forgot to give you my advice geekygurl. I would first try leaving an anonymous note in their mailbox. I also don't like talking to people about issues like their dog barking; it's really awkward. Maybe try putting some training pamphlets in their mailbox also. I tried that once and it did no good, but who knows, it might work. So if the note doesn't do any good then I would just call the police. That should be a wake up call that they need to do something. If they still don't take care of the problem then just keep calling the police each and every time their dog barks for more than about 10 minutes. Eventually I think they will get fines or some type of disciplinary action and there will have to be a solution.
