    Please Help Save the APBT

Below is a link to the petiotin to have the Razor's Edge pit bulls removed from the UKC and to be recognized as a seperate breed then a pit bull. Dave Wilson, the founder has admitted to mixing pit bulls with aother breeds to make them bigger, thicker, and considerbaly larger then the breed standard.
Coincidently this particualr string of pit bulls have helped spur the terrible view the media and public have agaisnt our once favored dogs. These types of bullies appeal to irresponsible dog owners because of their vicious appearance. Pit Bulsl are not suppsoed to exceed 65lbs, they arny supposed to be fat with no necks. They are supposed to be friendly, lean, well toned athletes.

I agree with you on the standards. But I just don't see how this petition is going to make it stick? This breeder is  Certainly not the only "Bully Breeder" breeding for bigger heads, shoulders etc... How are we going to stop them all? I signed it any way because just maybe we can stop the harm that is being done to this special breed!  Everybody should be loved by a Pitty Pat in their lives.

I think its about public awareness, people need to know of his deception. The UKC has awarded medals and wins to a mutt basically. Hopefully if he is exsposed other breeders who have done the same will be caught in the bad light as well. Hopefully someday "block heads, massive size, and big necks" wont be a advertising plus.

This is what they have made our dogs into...

    This is the breed standard....

Look at Helen Keller with her pit bull, look how compact they were, how cute!

Wow, impressive difference! I hate to admit it but I have never seen a pitbull in my area who looked much like the standard, just the top one. My brother has a pit mix that looks pretty simmilar to the standard :)

Here is the typical breed standard for a pit bull!

Ottoluv, that just goes to show how the masses view this breed

You should check out the pictures I just posted of Lucy at the shelter in Berryville VA who needs rescuing (the dogs needing homes thread). She looks very much, at least to me, like the standard.

    P.S. I signed!

It seems the pit bull has a bigger problem than one breeder, if my quick scan of a few breeder web sites is any indication. Certainly there were some excellent classic types in evidence, but it wasn't only this Razor's Edge guy that was producing the radically different type. Many seem to have embraced it, including UKC judges? Some serious re-education may be in order here.

Is there proof that he has been crossbreeding? I noticed that he certainly does a lot of line breeding. I am reminded of a certain Aussie kennel which is accused of crossbreeding with BCs because they line breed on dogs which work in a certain way, which happens to resemble BCs. I don't know whether the cross breeding claim is true or false but I do know that it is possible to radically change phenotype very quickly using a few propotent individuals and judicious line breedings. Heck, that's how we got Border Collies!

Not to defend him, of course, I know nothing of his ethics and if there is some reason to ostracize him there I wish you all the luck.

Oh yea, he has defintly admitted to it. Here is a link

He dosnt see the harm in it, his defense is that its a natural evolution to the breed, ha ha!
He is the oldest breeder who has started this trend, as you noted too many breeders have follwoed his trend.
Bottom line, they exceed the breed standard considerbaly. I understand there are variations to every breed but his are exceptional. What if the UKC does revoke their license? Think of all the peopel who paid a high price for those dogs based on their pedigree, theyd be left with nothing. The UKC is not commenting on the issue publicly because until a decision is made they are obligated to stick to their policies, it may not be a good thing for the UKC to have let this happen so I presume that is why ther decision is a hard one
