    Dangerous Kennel at Walmart

How horrible.  Kayla actually got out of her kennel one day when we first got her.  She got the thing unlatched and squeezed out.  I couldnt even pull it open so I dont know how she did it without killing herself, I am very grateful though.  And that was one where the bar went up through a hole in the top so I was never able to figure out how she did it (the bottom was still hooked though the hole.)  [&:]

Im so sorry for those doggies.

We actually have 2 of these kennels.Inoticed that they didnt seem very well built so ours are re-inforced with tie wires so they cant be pulled apart. This also means that they cant be folded down without cutting thoes wires.i also only use them for the dogs that are comfortable in thier crates so they dont try to get out.IMO these products should be recalled. They are very dangerous if used withdogs that paw at the door to try and escape or if they arent reinforced with zip ties or tie wires. There are also other brands that are made just as poorly.

Yeah, and people got to Walmart for the cheap prices, which can also reflect cheap quality or "off-shore" quality in some cases. Walmart can charge what it does primarily because places like India and China and Mexico pay very low wages to people who's previous job was working in a farm field.

And people buy dog food at Walmart, not because they think it's the best (many don't know and could care less) but because they can buy a 40 lb bag for less than $20 while they buy the big t.v. for $300.

Me, I drive the extra 300 yards to the Petco. And, if Shadow could have handled Innova, I would be driving 80 mile round trips to get thim that food. Then, again, I find Shadow to be more important than a bigger t.v.

How awful.  After reading that Kennel Aire is the best for surving a car accident, we took back our crate we had just bought at Petsmart.

We have one of these kennels, and Sammy has gotten it part of the way open and tipped it over and tried to get out thru the bottom.  The tray also came out.  these stories sound so familiar.  We didn't know better and had just gotten Sammy, and went cheap.  Once we realized it wasn't safe we stopped using it.  Tried to return the mangled thing to Walmart but they wouldnt take it.

How sad.  I'm glad that I realized that it wasn't safe before Sammy actually hurt himself!

I have two of these crates...had them for more than a year....no issues here.  The warning is appreciated, but I'm certainly not worried...I've never seen any of the issues described there.

I've bought a few old wire crates that had the aluminum pans in them (now that's old!) at yard sales, or from rescuers, groomers, or breeders who don't need them anymore, etc.  I simply disinfect them, replace the pans with the newer plastic kind (lighter), and use.  The gauge of the metal is more substantial and they are sturdier in general than the newer variety.  I have one Kennel Aire which I think is a newer model, and I'm not that impressed.  It's the old ones that you want to get, if you can.
But, I have seen the lighter ones with the hooks as shown in the photo, and they would scare me, too, if I had a powerful escape artist.  I'm lucky in that my dogs never try to get out.  They just go to sleep.

I have one of these crates...now had I read about this when Dallas was a puppy I would have gotten her a different crate. But, she doesnt try to get out at all she just sleeps the whole time and I tried pulling on hers pretty hard and it doesn't move. I'm not too worried but it has me thinking now.

I would just use a caribiner clip (is that the correct word?) on the latch.  It would be fine with that.
