Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog - I`m confused

This summer when we were looking for a pup I went to dogbreedinfo.com and found a dog picture that looked just like the dog we had had that died. It was a Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog (its in the purebreed line up). Says that the breed started development in 1999 - breed complete in late 2005. Was called a Shichon - then changed to a Chacy Ranior - now the ones that are true breed are called Miniature Littlefield Sheepdogs the rest are stilled called Chacy Raniors.

Miniature Littlefield Sheepdogs are breed for families with special needs children.

They were developed from the Maltese, Bichon Frise, Shih-Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier, Lhasa Opso, Miniaturre Schnauzer, Poodle, and the Havanese. Can this be done with so many breeds of dogs?

Anyway 3000.00 for a puppy.

I then went to the mixed breeds and found Chacy Raniors. Price for a pup 3000.00.

Kind of wondering.

Does this make a Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog a true breed? So far the only club that recognizes this breed is the Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog Club of America.

Why if the Chacy Raniors weren`t good enough to become a Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog are they still breeding them and asking 3000.00 for a pup?

Neither of these dogs were in the hybrid or designer list of dogs on the site.

Maybe I got up to early this morning. Maybe my confusion is do to lack of sleep. But I am confused.

Anyone who wants to shed some light on this I`d appreciate it.

I'm a little skeptical of the dogbreedinfo.com accuracy.... I've also seen some breeds in their "purebred" list that had me wondering, what does it take to make 'the list'?

I do enjoy the website though for all the pics. Sorry I can't be of much help with the breed question.

yuck...the description sounds a lot like how Labradoodle breeders describe their puppies (the perfect dog!).

I really don't see why you'd need to mix 8 different breeds to get a 15-20lbs dog that was good with kids. They're still sensitive with a high prey drive and like to dig...basically just your average dog with a big price tag.

I also find it odd that they're supposedly bred for special needs children, but yet in the description it says "The Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog is highly intelligent and sensitive and does not tolerate physical abuse or heavy handed training measures." Having worked with special needs children, I can tell you that an ideal dog would be highly tolerant of all physical and verbal interactions. The last thing you'd want is a therapy dog that is quick to defend itself.

I find it really suspect that the "breed" was named for its developer and is fetching $3000 per pup. If it smells like a doodle, walks like a doodle, and sounds like a doodle, it's a doodle. Red flags on that one. I don't see how you can take so many breeds and create a new "breed" in so little time... be afraid, be very afraid.

Another skeptic here - can anyone tell me how you get a cross of 8 breeds to breed true in 6 years of breeding? Either you're breeding a ton of animals a ton of times (and what happens to the pups that don't turn out like their parents?) or it's not breeding true, which of course means the "breed" isn't really a breed afterall and it's just another Designer Dog. [>:]

And I'd agree - a 15 or 20 lb dog that doesn't like rough handling isn't exactly a good match for special needs kids - Maggie and I are regular visitors at a special ed elem school class and they can be quite rough, loud, fast, and spontaneous. Maggie is 35lbs and I doubt I'd feel comfortable having a smaller dog around some of those children given their tendancy to not have a lot of body awareness/fine motor skill.

oh pulease..... this is about greed plain and simple. Further,,,these folks know next to nothing about canine genetics.

You know, I almost think it's a joke. I can't find any info on the breed other than that one page- googling for it didn't bring up the Miniature Littlefield Sheepdog Club of America (which is referenced in the 'breed standard') or any breeders- I think it's a hoax using photos off the net of various BYB Lhasa and Tibetan types.

2 breeders for the chacy ranior states are KY and NC

The miniature littlefield sheepdogs are from OK.
