    NEED HELP ASAP!!

OK, DH went to get a coffee and came out to find a little cat, I'd say around six months old or so standing next to his truck.  The cat was wet and shivering and extremely friendly.  He/she (I don't know!) has a soft red buckle collar on--sort of like the temporary ones breeders use when they have a liter.

Anyway, I called the shelter and they said I could bring her in.  But, now I'm wondering if we shouldn't just leave our information with them and keep the cat here??

I want to do the right thing.  We have no intention of keeping the cat ourselves.  But, we want to help it out to hopefully find the right owner.  And, if not we have friends who would be able to give it a great home.

It ate ravenously when I fed it and drank too so I know it's been out for a long time.

It must of got out by accident or got lost when it got out.  I don't know but it's definately not a feral cat.

    What should I do??

Oh Lori….I hate to see that.[&o]

If it were me (and I seriously thought that I knew some good folks to take the cat), I would take the cat home with me for the time being and maybe post signs around the area if you think it belongs to someone and is not feral.  Then if after a few days no one claims it see if one of your friends wants the kitten before taking it to the shelter.

How is Miss Willow taking to the kitten in her house?

after some stories i have heard here, i would keep her and leave the info with the shelter.
    maybe that's just me though..

I guess it depends on your shelter.   Here, a young cat would probably get adopted pretty quickly so I would take it to the shelter if I couldn't keep it.

I'm not sure how good the shelter would be about keeping your info on file and notifying someone who came in looking that the kitten had been found and to call you.  Around here, they're so overwhelmed, I just wouldn't count on it.  On the other hand, I'm not fond of the idea that this kitten would spend any time in a shelter.  I think I'd see if I could post a picture of the kitten and your contact info at the shelter, around the area you found it, and any vet offices in that area.  I'd also check the newspaper for a week or so and see if anyone places an ad.  If no one comes forward, I think this kitten would make a very nice Christmas present for your friends [:)].

    Not happy!!

This cat is AWESOME!  Soooooo friendly!

I fed it a little at a time over the few hours it's been here and it ate I'd say 3/4 of a can of Solid Gold Blended Tuna for Cats.  The bigger of the two cans, the 6 oz.

She's starving, she's trying to put her head in the can while I'm spooning it out.  And, she was taking it right from the spoon, it wasn't even hitting the dish.  I don't have any dry cat food.  Did she get enough for now??  I've got to go to work in an hour so I've got to figure out what to do.

    Thanks!!

Well, after speaking to our groomer who breeds cats and also our vet--they couldn't take him in.  We can't keep him and he's so young he shouldn't be outside alone yet --my opinion.

I brought him to the shelter--they have all my information if they need to contact me.  I'm going to keep looking for the owner myself too.

The shelter didn't treat me very well and I almost turned around and left with him again.

Good idea leaving your info....I'm glad you got to enjoy him for a bit....friendly kitties are just adorable not matter their age.
    So dog-like!

if the shelter doesn't know you they might think you are using the excuse you found the kitten to drop it off w/out paying the intake fee. They hear so many stories they do start to lose faith in people - don't take it personally.

Poor little thing - glad your hubby has a kind enough heart to save him/her.

He does have a kind heart, he's the one who saved Willow too.

I am sorry to hear you had a bad experience.[:'(]

I am very glad the kittie got a yummy meal and some human contact from you...sounds like a sweety...I am sure it will be adopted!

Lori! I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago!!  A kitten was out in the middle of the road, dodging cars as I was leaving work.  When I yelled 'here kitty kitty' it came straight to me (something that has NEVER happened before!) I brought it home with me because we don't have a nearby shelter in hopes of finding a good home for the kitty.

We almost kept him (we're generally not cat people but this one purred his way into our hearts FAST)but the lady I work with asked a few people and finally found a good home for the kitty.  Btw, I looked online for a description to tell if our kitty was a Mr. or Miss lol -- and when the guy picked up the kitty, I was right!  It was a HE! lol

With the way you were treated at the shelter... I'd keep looking for the owner on my own and if nothing surfaces, I'd give the kitten to the friends you were speaking of.  It deserves a good home and it's SO GREAT of you and your DH to help it out [:D].

Lori,  I'm so sorry you had to put up with rude shelter people...  Is there a cat rescue  league in your area?  Google it and find out.  Young cats get adopted quickly and most organizations would be thrilled to get your info while you foster the cat, or put up a temporary shelter for him/her.

Thank you for saving the kitty's life.
