Backyard Dog Smell

• Backyard Dog Smell Dave Rivera Posted : 12/14/2006 10:54:12 AM Hi,   I have a half lab half rotweiler and I've noticed that even after picking up after her, that the backyard still has a smell to it.  Is there something I can spray on the lawn or dirt to reduce the smell? • brookcove Posted : 12/14/2006 11:51:43 AM Is this a doggy smell or a urine smell? If it's urine then a treatment of lime will help and your lawn will also thank you. [] You can get lime in a 50 lb bag at the garden center - get the pelletized and the effect will last longer... For doggy smell you can spray your yard with a very mild solution of a biodegradeable detergent (check the label, your best bet is a natural foods center like Whole Foods). I use a powder and water it in well. The reason this works is the smell is actually the oil from your dogs' pads and coat/hair and the detergent reduces the surface tension of the soil and allows the oil to degrade rather than buidl up.
