    Quick rant

So, this evening my office takes an emergency call.  We close at 6:00pm and the owner called at 5:55 with a hit by car.  We agree to stay to see the dog tonight.  When the owner shows up, the first thing she says as she looks over the counter at Bevo "I can't believe that someone would be so cruel to cut his ears off!"  I calmly explain that not everyone agrees with ear cropping, but that Bevo is my dog & I as his owner decided that this was what I wanted.

We move on, I take info on the dog, unneutered, 2 year old, male pit bull.  I ask the million dollar question "what time did this happen?"  She replies, last Monday.  I hold it together, and assess the dog.  There is an obvious hip out of socket, as well as an elbow out.  There are numerous burns all over this dog, and a very large laceration on the dogs shoulder, that has maggots crawling around in it.  This dog is in terrible shape (hasn't eaten since last Tuesday).  We hooked him up to I.V. Fluids and started antibiotics and pain relief in an effort to gett him a bit more stable before X-Rays tomorrow.

Now how am I the cruel person who had her dog's ears cropped, with anesthesia, and pain relief, when this woman waited a full week to take care of her own poor dog.   I think I'd rather have my ears cut off than have to wait for a week to get the medical attention I needed.  Sorry, this has just been eating away at me all night.

Some people do not need animals.  Is there anyway the authorities could be notified?  I know she is caring for it now so they probably couldn't do much, but maybe they could check on the dog once in a while after this vet care to make sure she is still caring for it?

Oh I can't even think of the number of dogs (and cats) we had where the owner waited to bring their pet in. It would make me so upset everytime to know that the dog was in pain for so long. All I could tell myself was "at least the brought they animal in at all"

One little dog had its leg almost completly torn off, if it had only came in that day the leg could have been re-attached but because the owner allowed the dog to limp around with it's bone sticking out of it's leg for two weeks there was no way we could get that leg back in place and of cours it was one of thoes calls where the owner brouht the dog in 5 min. before closing ona Friday[:@] Then to think, the owner complained that our cost was too high, after calling the e-vet and getting the cost from them she asked that we just eutha. the dog... After we told her the cost of that (we added $200 onto the cost because it was after hours) she just took the dog and left[8|]....

There is really nothing you can do for these cases, in my state if a person seeks advice from a vet, weather they listen or not, then they did not do anything wrong no matter how long they waited[:@] Belive me, there were many cases I wish I could put the owner threw the same things they did to thieir dog... err... The things you have to deal with daily as a tech[8|]

BEVOLASVEGAS! I so can relate to your fuming!!!

I just found out a neighbor's Pit Bull's got into a horrible fight about 6 weeks ago and neither of the dogs have been seen by a veterinarian.  I am so mad I could bite a two penny nail in half, especially since I witnessed the extent of the injuries and amp how infected they both are at this time.

I WILL be speaking to the owners today about this. If they advise "Don't have the money" I will take them myself and have them vetted, especially since my favorite one, Dodie, is pregnant and her right front leg is as big as my forearm!!!

I am so livid right now about the whole neglect thing. I would call ACC about this, however, I know the "redneck" mentality of these people and they would be given an order to take them to a vet but I know they would just sign them ovet to ACC. Which is OK, BUT, NOT in this town. They would still not receive the medical care they need and just be euthanized on their next euthanisia day which would be another five days after being received into the ACC facility.

I think my best course of action would be to take them into my vet today and have them treated medically. For the most part these two are well fed, and do have a huge fenced in back yard and are bathed on a regular basis. I just have IGNORANT neighbors!!!

Amanda stop letting anyone make you feel guilty.
Do you have to give that dog back to that woman?
