We met Chase's littermate today!

    We met Chase's littermate today!

We bought Chase at a pet store a little over a year ago.  He was one of two puppies.  Anyway, today we went to hike on some trails about half an hour away.  We ran into a young couple with their lovely chesapeake.  After chatting for a few minutes, we realized that Brutus was Chase's littermate!  How cool is that?!?  They adopted Brutus from the shelter a bit before Christmas.  Anyway, we walked together for over an hour, Chase and Brutus played and ran, and we have plans to meet again next week.  It was a very neat afternoon!

Edited to add:  I forgot to mention how sad I was when I found out that Brutus had been abandoned at the shelter by his previous owners.  However, his new family applied to adopt him a mere half hour after he was dropped off.  He's a very lucky, happy boy!

Wow, how did you determine they were mates?

The info they had from the shelter included his birthday and the pet store where he was originally bought.  We also knew (from the clerk at the pet store) that the people who had bought C's brother had named him Bruno.  That was how he was listed at the shelter.  His new family changed his name to Brutus.

There are very few chesapeakes around here, so the first question we get is usually "where did you get him?".  They're ;pretty much unheard of in pet stores.  So a pup with the same birthday, bought from the same store, with the same name...couldn't be anyone else!  What a good boy he is, as well.  He's lovely.

(And yes, I realize now that pet stores are not an ethical place to buy puppies.  Never again...but thank goodness I didn't know that before I got my boy, because my life wouldn't be the same without Chase!)

That is so cool.  I would love to come across my Manchester's litter mates.  I rescued her from a shelter, and there were 9 in her litter.  Manchester's are not common around here at all so every time I see one I ask the owner about when are where they got there dog.

    What a cool day.

Did your dogs like each other?  I wonder if they somehow know that they are related...

    Way cool!

I have run into two of my dogs three littermates.
I met his sister's mom at PetsMart.  She stopped
to ask me what his breed was because he looked
like her dog.  We compaired notes and they were
adopted from the same group.  She brought her girl
to my dogs graduation and they were identical.  If we
were at a dog park I could've easily brought home
the wrong dog.  We live 30 miles apart.
I met the brother's mom while driving through a
fast food restaurant.  Same conversation.  Identical
except hers has blue eyes. We live 40 miles apart.
The last dog lives in Jackson Hole, two states away.
If I ever vacation there I will look out for her.
