    So we have this yard....

Our fence is done well enough for the dogs to be outside.  I let them out in the yard for a little over an hour, until it was clear they wanted to come in.  I was expecting nice, quiet, worn out dogs.  What to I get?  An insane case of the zoomies followed by a wresling match.  The yard, it seems, is only for sniffing, digging, and dirtying one's self....

That sounds so familiar. [:D][:D] Max doesn't go outside to play, either.  He goes out when one of his people is out there - or the pool guys. If he's out there alone for any length of time, you can bet he's either digging a new hole or burying somebody's shoe or wallet in one that was already dug.

Same here. We have a nice 2 acre size yard. What does Prince do?? Go into "patrol" mode, while peeing and sniffing all of his favorite spots. If no one is outside with him, he will stand by the door and not move. Macy tries to get him to play but he usually doesn't. It's when they are inside they act crazy. [8|]

And this is why just having a yard your dog goes to doesn't mean they're getting enough exercise! Mostly dogs just sniff and snooze outside. I know when we lived out in the sticks and would just let Conrad out for an hour or two instead of walking him, he mostly just milled around the yard and sat in his "divet" under the cedar tree. Every now and then he'd have a nice run up and down the beach, but that was about it.

Thats what the 4 mile bike rides, 3+ mile hikes, attention-healing walks, and off-leash walks on 80+ acres are for. LOL

gus runs like a mad man outside....he loves it.  we walk him, but he would rather just run in the yard.

bugsy has grown to love being outside - he has been staying out longer and longer on his own.  He 'works' and hunts when he's out.  Never lays in the grass.  He's not much of a digger unless the mole tunnels are fresh and then he will dig for a mole.  He will do zoomies outside all the way around the house.  The neighbors think its funny - as do I.
On occasion even if he is exhausted he comes in and does a final zoomie before you hear the thud of 95lbs hitting hte deck [:D]

Lately his routine is to go out after breakfast for up to an hour or so - he will come in for a bit and then its walk time.  After that he will rest for a few hours.  He wants to go our again in the afternoon and has begun to LOVE going out at night - good critters I suppose

Our dogs do both! They play all the time (although less now that Gromit is getting older...but they still play) and then want to come inside and play. The thing is their play is so obnoxious that we have to tell them to stop or put them back outside!

This is an exact description of how Russell spends time in our new yard! [sm=lol.gif]
