So, guys, I shall be fostering soon!

I am WAY excited. The shelter I got Ella from closed down in October and I recently contacted the lady that did my interview for Ella (we had been emailing eachother back and forth when I first got Ella because I was keeping her updated on Ella), and apparently her and some of the other volunteers from that shelter took off after the closing and have now opened up there own shelter. I contacted her to ask her about CBBR in Chicago and she told me about the new shelter and said that if I wanted she could let me know when they get a dog in that she feels would be compatible with Ella.
I thought that this would be good. Well, I have been messing with the thought of fostering and wanted to send in apps to different pit bull rescues. Well, I didn't think anyone would allow me to foster since I've never done it before and Ella is my first pit bull. I've heard how picky rescues can be. Then it occurred to me (duh) to ask this lady if it were possible if I could foster for her new shelter. I wasn't even sure if she'd go for it, but she emailed me back ecstatic and said that after she read my email she talked to the lady that was there during our intro. with Ella, and they're going to be looking into different dogs to see which I should foster (she said that she would get me a dog to foster that she thinks would be good with Ella). They're working with a bully rescue in Wisconsin so she's going to contact me after this weekend.

    I'M SO EXCITED. GEEEEE!!!!
I already went today and bought some new toys for a foster (I'll do this with any dog I foster so there isn't a toy sharing problem in the house with Ella) and I have food, they'll provide a crate. Now...is there anything that I should know that they might not tell me?

    GAH I'M SO EXCITED.
Is it strange to be THIS excited about fostering?

that is cool. the wife and i have talked about fostering as well, but havent acted on it yet.

keep us updated as to how everything goes. it is nice that they will provide a crate. [:D]

Congrats and i  hope all goes well, I  wish I could foster! I guess once I'm out of the house. =)

    thanks.
    I cannot wait.
I mean, obviously I have a ton of extra stuff here because of Ella. They'll have to provide me a prong collar, crate, and vet costs.
She told me that they have a GSD/chow mix now that needs a home, but she said she understands that I really want to foster pit bulls because she's like that too. But I emailed her and told her that if she cannot find a foster for the GSD/chow mix, and she thinks he'd do well with Ella, then I'll foster him.I'm not going to turn away a dog just because it's not a pit bull.

OMG!   I am soooo excited for you!

I would *love* to foster a dog, but unfortunately, that would mean risking eviction, or at least thats what Im afraid of!

You are doing a great thing! (I'd want to foster a pit too!)

Did you mention when you first got Ella that she is a bit dog aggressive?  Its great that, if so, youre taking the necessary precautions about getting extra toys, etc.... Im sure they know what they are doing though, and its great that they know Ella, maybe they will find a nice, submissive, non DA pitty for ya!

Otherwise, which Im sure you are aware of, I would be ready for potential heartbreak.... I know I would get attached to a foster... but I bet its probably worth it for the good you are doing that pupper!

    thanks, Alieliza!

Well, since I was considering adopting, I'm SURE that'll I'll break the first rule of fostering and...isn't that "Don't adopt any fosters."? hahahaha!

The good thing about this is, she knows Ella and she knows Ella's personality, and she has 2 pits of her own and understands the whole DA thing. In fact, she told me if I had any questions about crating and rotating, I could ask her ANYTHING. Also, I had asked her about [linkhttp://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7228052]this dog[/link], because it states that he cannot stay in his foster home much longer. She said she's going to talk to the behaviorist/trainer (the same one that worked with Ella and works with ALL of their dogs) and see how much training this little guy has left and look into whether or not the behaviorist thinks this dog would be good with Ella. I know he's got the cropped ears, but he's SO pretty!
Ella is not necessarily dog aggressive (not that I've been shown for sure), but I'll be real careful about it. I hope it all works out![;)]
