    Preventing choking?

I was eating chicken today, and I gave jayda a piece of the cuttle bone (??) you know, the soft part at the end of the bone,.. anyway, I figured she'd actually chew it, it was a fair size after all, but nope, so excited she swallowed it WHOLE! I was like omg, and she started to chuff like she was choking for about five seconds, (felt like five hours) and she was fine. But, that lead me to think, what if she wasn't okay, what would I do to get it down .. or up? She tends to eat quickly, so it could be a possibility that she would end up actually choking.. Any suggestions?

You can use your fingers to sweep the dogs mouth, there is also a heimlick (however you spell it) you can do for dogs . . . you'd need to see picture instructions though to properly position your hands so I'm not going to explain it here.  Try and find a home animal health care book . . . . there are some really great ones out there.

Just as an aside, its really a bad idea to give your dog cooked bone and cartilidge.  Raw is fine, but not cooked . . . .

Whats wrong with cartilidge? I know about the bones, but cartilidge doesnt splinter.
