Harsh...

    Harsh...

My moms friend is here and she's trying to be all agressive with Jazzmine- like her tone of voice is really scary and I can't really say anything because my mom will totally go off on me. I don't believe in harsh training like that and it's just so frustrating..

Do you know people like that? It's MY dog. I don't want her to be scared of people. She's already kind of nervous as it is- and I am trying to counteract that. We're starting training in December.

    Argh.

What can I say to her without insulting her "so called" training "techniques"?
When she tried to call jazzmine she cowered. I didn't like it very much.

How about keeping the dog away from the guest? If I were in your situation, that's what I'd do since it means I don't have to worry about the guest or their feelings if I said something. [;)]

Hard to keep her away from her. Agh. She rolled her eyes at me when I let her on my bed. I'm like "It's MY bed". My rules. I don't mind her on my bed, and she listens to me pretty well. She doesn't cower or hide from me. I don't personally think harsh tones work and when you are working with a sensitive dog like Jazzmine it could be harmful.

I'll  be very happy leaving on Saturday.

Perhaps you could say something about how Jazzmine's very nervous and doesn't respond very well to harsh tones (and that it could be harmful), and that Jazzmine'd be a lot better, and you'd really appreciate it, if she was nicer (and demonstrate).

Alternatively, you could just tell her where to stick her crappy techniques [:D]

My step dad is the same way.  He wasn't always like that with Pugsly, but after they got a pug he started acting really mean to him like yelling at him and all that.  One night when i was staying with my mom i went out with my friends and left Pugsly in my mom's care.  When i got back Pugsly was all worked up and was completely exhausted.  The only way i found to deal with is was to just keep Pugsly away from him when i'm not there or if he does something wrong i correct him in my own way before my step dad can yell at him and scare him.  He has started to just let me handle it and Pugsly isn't so nervous around him.

Could you privately ask your mom for help?  If not, don't insult the training techniques, just tell your guest that you appreciate her help, but you would prefer to start your dog fresh with the methods you will be using at training class, so she won't be confused.  [;)]
