    Books?

    Hi!

I've got a gift card burning a hole in my pocket ... I'm looking for suggestions for books.

    What about these ones?
How to Speak Dog: Mastering the Art of Dog-Human Communication  - Stanley Coren
Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence: A Positive Training Program  - Benjamin  ,  Carol L. Benjamin
Grrrrrr!: The Complete Guide To Understanding And Preventing Agressive  - Mordecai Siegal
Don't Shoot The Dog!  - Karen Pryor

I already have Culture Clash, Dog Whisperer, Monks of New Skete.  Several of you mentioned "Calming Signals" but the company the card is for doesn't carry it.  So I'll have to find it elsewhere.

    Thanks so much!

How about "The Power of Positive Training"  I am not sure who the author is, but it is a book I've been wanting to read for a long time.

    My top recommendations:

Dogs by Raymond and Lorna Coppinger
The Other End of the Leash by Patricia McConnell, Ph.D.
The Truth About Dogs by Stephen Budiansky (just finishing this book; fascinating read, though I don't necessarily agree with the guy on all of it)
Dog's Best Friend by Mark Derr (I'm in the middle of this one; another fascinating read)
    You already mentioned Culture Clash...

    Have fun book-buying!

I just checked "How to Speak Dog" out of the library, and also the NEW REVISED "How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend" book by the Monks of New Skete. I'm here to say that the Monks have totally rewritten their book and no longer advise the negative practices they did in the first book. Kinda like the way Dr. Spock wrote a new book about babies, admitting that he was TOTALLY wrong in the original book he wrote back in the 50s!

I've only just started both books, but I've browsed a good deal in the Monks' book. Just thought folks ought to know that there is a totally different book now.

This one is about a dog trainer ( you might have heard of him before ) I loved the book, he is hilarious, i was laughing  through the whole thing.

I have to agree with Lauri. If I could only own one dog book, this would be it. (In fact it's my second favorite book in all genres.)

    Thanks so much everyone!!

    I ended up with:

The Other End of the Leash  (It's been highly recommended here and on other boards.)
How to Speak Dog (I LOVE Stanley Coren)
Surviving Your Dog's Adolescence (This one I'm living right now - and the reviews seemed to be positive.)

Thanks again and I'll keep the list for the next time I have a gift card to spend!

    Cheers!
