What a beautiful doggie, Becca! Thanks for sharing your photos. Give him (?) some smoochies for me. [:)]

I am not a huge fan of Chinese Cresteds, but yours is adorable, Becca!  He is the best looking one I have ever seen!  I would definitely have one if they all looked like that!

Becca, Your crested is a cutie [:)] but I am in love with your pyr! What a big sweetheart!

Thanks everyone - Zhi says "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!" Although she's backyard bred both her parents came from two of the top crested kennels (her breeder is a bit of a cad). She takes after her dad, who is from N'Co - very beautiful, nice temperamented, healthy cresties. I've recommended them to folks who want to look into cresteds for themselves (if they are serious).

She's a natural star - she'd do very well in the show ring, I think - her grandfather was the country's #1 crestie and now I can see how having a pedigree full of "star power" can result in a very nice dog (assuming the breeder is honest, of course). She'll have to be contented with a more private audience, however, as she's spayed. No show career for her! Besides, I'd have to wrap her furnishings and not let her play in the pond and play games with the Border collie puppies. She's used to being a tom boy now.

She now sports a complete wardrobe with the turn of colder weather. If I ever get the cable thingie to download my pictures, I'll have her model her new outfits! Dressing her is just about the most fun - I call her "My Little Pony."

Tully is actually a Maremma Sheepdog - other side of the Pyranees Mountains. [;)] Isn't he a stunner? He's just turned three this week - hard to believe my baby is almost all grown up! Zhi is quietly taking over the farm as Alpha - she's not quite, Maggie still retains primary privileges in some important areas, but she'll be a good alpha someday. She's tremendously confident and can make any dog feel welcome, even dogs that their owners say "Aren't good with other dogs." She's never met a dog she couldn't win over and make feel completely comfortable worshipping her. [:D] She's taught me a lot about "benevolent leadership."

Now, I kind of want one!  But, I want it to look just like Zhi.  Her skin looks very nice, not bumpy and weird like most!  She really is beautiful!  What do you feed her?  Do you do anything special for her skin?  She really looks better than any of the Cresteds that I have seen at shows!

sorry for the off topic everyone.....

You know what? When I posted the thought went through my head "maybe he is an Maremma?" [&:][&:] but then I decided to go with pyr, because they are more common! I did not realize that pyrs and maremmas were so similar, until I saw your picture!

    back on topic again........

Really interesting crestie information. I think they are amazing little dogs! There used to be someone who was really into cresties that posted here, and she said something one time about crestie breeders researching the gene that causes them to lose teeth. I can't remember what her name was[:(]

Colleen, Zhi is completely grain free. Grain free kibble and raw meaty bones. She gets the occaisional zit but only when I've been careless and exposed her to too much sun or let her get into sheep feed or something. I'm also told good skin runs on her daddy's side of the family. Now I just wish I could get her furnishings to grow out - but she likes playing with the BC boys too much! [:D]

Speaking of Cresteds, one came into work today.  I of course asked to pet it and it was not very soft like Zhi looks.  But, she said he had skin allergies, so that was probably it.  I really didn't like them before, but after reading about them and really watching their personality more, rather than just saying "look at that funny dog!" they are starting to grow on me.  They have a bit of terrier attitude which I love!  I really may look into them more when I get another show dog after college.  Thanks for the insight!

Isn't that fantastic? Glamor dog looks with terrier 'tude! Hahaha!

I absolutely have an unhealthy fascination with hairless dogs. I'm going to have to get one, one of these days.

There is a powderpuff Chinese Crested that comes regularly to our agility classes.  He's a great little guy, one blue eye, one brown.  He's black and white and so cute!  His owner does have to keep his fur shaved short to prevent mats, but she doesn't shave him hairless.  He is doing really well in agility and has lots of confidence!  Great little dog!
