    I'm so worried that I can't sleep!

Rose is out at my mentor's house having her puppies and I'm so worried!  She was doing great when I went to see her.  Unfortunately, I could not stay because she got too excited to see me.  She would have been find if I had been there the whole time, but since I just got back, she wanted to play.  There were three so far.  I'm going to go see them in the morning, but until then, I'm worrying!

You guys know she's playing with those puppies right now...letting them suck on her nose and such.
I bet she won't even remember to take pics for us [:(]...lmao! We are so abused! [sm=biggrin.gif]

I just called to check on her.  She calmed down after I left, so thats good.  She had 3 boys!  I'm going to go out there today and see them.  The plan is to take Rose out quickly and then play with them.  She just stomps them when I first get there.  If I've been around a while, shes ok, but when I first get there, all she wants to do is see me.  Well, at least I know she really loves me!  I'm going to get my kitchen set up for her today.  I'm going to take the door off the crate and put something on it so the puppies cant get out(not that they can even walk yet).  And then put a gate up on the kitchen.  Then, she will be able to get away from the puppies when shes very excited and acting like an idiot.  Plus, she will calm down a bit when shes home.

Be careful about giving a first time Mom, especially one that's a bit too attached to her owner...TOO MUCH space to move. She may simply leave and not return in order to be near you, or she may try to carry the pups to where you are resulting in injury or chilling. I'd really consider boxing her in with them...if the crate is too small for her to have a spot away from them get a bigger one. I'd take the top completely off the crate because you cannot see well with it on, and she can lie on a pup or push it against the side walls without you seeing it right away. Then you an comletely block the dip where the door goes...or turn it to face the wall and Mom can simply hop over the side.

My Beagle bitches are always confined WITH their pups for the first weeks. Those puppies burn energy looking for their Mom and that's energy they cannot afford. She must be close enough for them to sense her heat AT ALL TIMES. I use the bottom half of a Ruff Haus doghouse and surround this with an Expen leaving no space outside for her to lie. There is room inside the pen for her to move slightly away if she becomes hot. I walk her as she needs it to pee and poop and stretch her legs. Walking in the yard not out front where other dogs may have left disease. After about 3 weeks I rearrange the ex pen so there's a small arear outside the pen for her to lie in.

I was planning on doing that with the crate.  I have a small space under a weird counter thing in my kitchen that the crate will fit perfectly.  We usually keep the moms in a giant dog crate with the puppies for a while.  It works very well for these small dogs.  I will either keep the crate totally together and lock her in there while I am gone, or I will leave it half open and close off part of the kitchen.  Or, what if I take the door off and put her other crate facing the door so she can run into there when i get home?  I haven't quite decided yet, but that is my project for the day.  I'm going to leave her out there for a few days.  Once she is home, she doesn't quite get so excited, its just when I leave her there, she thinks "OH!  You didn't forget me!  You came back!"  I'll post more when I decide exactly how to situate her and the puppies, but I have time!  And, of course, pictures!
