    Pomeranian's leg goes numb!

    Hello,

I ahve a toy pomeranian who is 6 months old and for the last 3 weeks, her back leg has started to go numb everytime she wakes up. It never happened before, and everytime she gets up, her back right leg is numb for about 8-10 seconds before she can step on it. I was wodnering if this is anything i should worry about or if there is anything i can do?

    Thanks a lot,
    Mike

Sorry -- I'm lost here.  How do you *know* the leg is numb?  What's happening that gives you the impression the leg is numb?

I'd be at the vet pronto -- sounds neural to me if a puppy is having any problems walking at all.

Well, I'll still try to help even though I'm thinking your a Yankee fan, LOL!!

I had a client (I'm a pet sitter) whose little Pom, he was under a year old, also had similar symptoms that continued to progress to where he was holding the leg up all the time.  I'm not exactly sure what the situation was that was causing it but he did end up needing surgery to fix whatever it was.  And, then after the recovery time, he was fine.

So, just to be safe maybe you should get him checked out.

If your talking about the leg sticking out stiffly to on side and her carrying it up she likely has a slipped ;patella which is very common in toy breeds. The patella slips in and then pops back in. This is a problem for a VET so they can assess how bad and if/when surgery will be recommended to correct the problem...

I was thinking patella, too. Most puppies don't have legs that just go numb. Even if they do, they will walk on them (dragging toes).
