    Dog Found

Attention Denver people. We live in Montbello and found a beautiful German Shorthair Pointer wondering through the park. It followed my husband so he brought the dog home hoping it would have a chip and we could find the owner. The dog is chipped, but not registered[:(]

We plan to hold the dog until Friday when we will have to send it to the pound. We have a small place and just can't have another dog around. If this sounds like a pet you know please leave an ad on the thread, or send a message.

If you know of a way we can find it a good home let me know that too. I hate to send such a wonderful dog to the pound, but are left with little choice.

Thanks I wrote to them. I need to finish making flyers tonight and go hang them in the morning.

I don't know if it was this board, or another one I am on, but since the dog is microchipped - it is traceable regardless of it not being registered. It will just take a little more work.  Whoever scanned the chip for you can tell you which company manufactured the chip. Call that manufacturer with the chip number, and they can trace who they sold the chip too. Get them to give you the information on who bought that chip, and call them with a description of the dog.  Who ever implanted that particular chip should have a record of the animal they implanted it in - and should give you the owner!  Like I said, more work - but the chip manufacturer should want to see the dog reunited with its owner and help you. Good luck and I hope you can get him back to his owners!

Thank you. We have already done that and are waiting to hear back from the person who implanted the chip. I just hope they call today last night was a very long night for all around

If it's possible you can board the dog you found as opposed to putting it into a shelter. If for only a few days generally it's not that expensive (ours is $22 per day for a large dog, $12 for small) and you will know where the dog is, the dog isn't in danger of being put down...the dog is not disrupting your household, and if you find the owner they can likely reimburse you. Just an idea!

    Dog has been claimd!

Here is the story as it unfolded......
Dog had chip, but no info. So we called the people who made the chip. They gave us the place they sold that lot number of chip to. That guy called us with the local Denver vet, or store. That lady called with the owner info. Now they did try to contact the owner themselves, but they got an answering machine, so they called me back with the info.
Minutes later the owner called me and we met up in the park (I was already there)

Dog was bought last March and stolen from the ladies back yard. She searched and searched for it for months. When she called the maker of the chip, she claimes they said "If the dog is gone it wouldn't do any good" I told her that is a lie and if she had registered she could have had the dog back last night.

Needless to say she was really really happy to get her dog back and promised to call and put info for the chiip as soon as she got back from the vet.

Happy ending. I'm glad. She's glad, and she offered to get together and let the puppies play.
Here is a picture of the beautiful dog we helped. We found her name is Elle.
