    My new name!

I was walking Gypsy down town last night and came to a busy intersection.  I waited for the first car to go through it.  The second car pulled up, smiled and waved me across the street.  As usual, I waved back and said, "Thank you" to the driver.  She said, "That's OK.  We know you're "The Lady Who Walks the Dogs". She said it very obviously as a NAME, not a description.  She must live near the shelter.  Any way, I got to thinking tha this must be my Native American name.  I got a good chuckle out of it and figured that I have been called MUCH worse in the past!

    Well your in good company!!!LOL!
Last year we went to the library's rabies clinic...with all the dogs in my van and Bill's P/U...all dogs were well behaved and took their shots like troopers. A month later we stopped by a local church bazzar and while sitting at the table eating a nice man came up and said, You're the dog lady, turned to his wife and said this is the woman I was telling you about who came to the clinic with all of her dogs...yep, thats me, The dog lady..LOL!

Yea, I do agility where everyone is a doglady (or dogfather as the case may be).  But I'm THE person with THE basenjis.  Or maybe I'm the crazy lady that thinks basenjis can be agility dogs.  Oh well.

It's pretty bad when people look at Stormy, say "nice Saluki" and then say "You're Amber's mom". Her reputation precedes me. [sm=lol.gif]

I think the other tenants in my apartment building would recognize Tojo before they recognized me.

I get, "we took your puppy class", and "do you remember Spot?"
Oh, sure, I remember Spot (who now looks nothing like he did at age 8 weeks LOL)

Even though I've lived here 6.5 years, most people don't know my name. But nearly all the kids know Shadow's name. Most people know me as the Tall Guy Walking the Big "Black" dog and carrying a Pooper Scooper.

My newest name is "Dog Freak," given to me by the young women who were arguing with me while their dog was trying to attack us all because I used a descriptive curseword when asking them to call their dog back. They took it as a personal curse against them, which it was not. Amongst the middle of the street go-round and only myself trying to keep them apart, I was trying to tell them that dogs have a way of acting with each other, regardless of size and that their dog was showing signs of dominant aggression before the attack. "So, you're a dog freak!"

"Yes, I am a dog freak."

A number of people never walk or train their dogs. They expect them all to turn out like Lassie or Benji, just magically. So, when they see one of us actually taking the time to care for our pets exercise and training, that makes us dog people. So be it. Giving us a name helps compartmentalize us and it makes them feel better in their minds. They have a place for us that makes them feel comfortable about not walking their dogs, so the can avoid being dog freaks and dog people.
