    Ewww, don't poop on *that*!

I have a crazy fetching dog.  We go to the dog park and we play fetch with a chuck-it.  He proudly carries his tennis ball around the entire time.

When he wants to poop, he will search for the just-right spot.  Then he drops his ball there.  Then he turns in circles to find the best pooping angle.  Then he poops.  So far it hasn't landed completely on top of the ball, but the pile is always right next to the ball.  Sometimes touching.  Then I pick up the poop, and he picks up the poopy ball, and it's fetch time again!  Yuck!  Crying  You can tell he doesn't like to grab the ball after it's been so close to the poop -- he stands back as far as he can and just stretches his neck out to grab the ball -- but this does not deter him from dropping the ball in his chosen spot the next time he has to go.

I don't quite get it.  I sure wouldn't want to poop on my favorite toy!  I don't know if he's marking the spot with the ball, or he just drops it at the last possible second before pooping, or what.  I guess that's why I'm not a dog!

Anybody else's dog poop almost on top of their toys?

I'm sorry, I'm sitting here snorting and laughing and I have NO useful information!

    But thanks for the laugh!

While I can't say that Ryder will poop on or by his toy, I can say that he insists on holding it in his mouth while he does his business.  Sometimes he will drop it in front of him but if any other dog comes near . . .

*is snorting too*   I'm sorry I also have no advice.  My silly dogs do the same thing.  Only.... it's usually directly IN the frisbee.  I've tried yanking it away before they can do it, but then the pooping stops, the game begins again and we start the process over.

I think they just happen to do it.  At that point they're just thinking "gotta poop gotta poop" and just happen to make it land in the wrong place.

Yeah, my girl friend's collie poops on her frisbee all the time.  Problem is, she refuses to touch the frisbee again until I wash it off.  I've found myself running at her screaming to stop because I can see when it's gonna happen every time!

I have no solution, but maybe he keeps the ball that close to him so no other dogs try to take it when he's otherwise occupied?  If it only happens when other dogs are around, that's what I would think.  If that's the case, maybe you can hold onto the ball while he poops.
