Bully Sticks?

I get Blue the 12 inch bully sticks and here they last for about 2 weeks due to the fact he is a slow chewer with them.

The bully sticks sound good, but I've never bought them, mostly because of the price, they are a little much, I think. I do get rawhides quite a bit though, I don't have any problems with those. I do like the pressed ones the best, but right now I've got a big bag of rawhide chips that they eat in the evening. I give those to them when I'm around, not really because I'm afraid of them choking, but because I like to see them chewing on those and enjoying them...[8|] I guess I'm wierd. lol The only things we have problems with here is when Cassidy eats the horse's hoof trimmings right after I get their hooves trimmed. She almost always throws up during the night ([:@]) because she swallows them in chunks. She chews the rawhides up good though, so I don't worry about those.

I will be returning the Kong..I emailed them to find out how to go about doing so.

As for bones from Dog.com....what about this?

Is a bone like that safe?

I've ordered these bones (they also have some hickory bones just like that) from dog.com quite a few times. My dogs love to lick the filling out and then I use the bone just like a Kong with frozen treats in it. They love to chew on them and the bones last forever.

My dogs go through rawhides like crazy too. You always want to supervise them when they chew rawhide, because some dogs tear off chunks and can swallow big pieces. I'm always afraid that they'd choke, so I won't let them chew without me around. I love the pressed rawhide bones. You can find them on dog.com and they last longer than standard rawhide chews. I just ordered pressed ;porkhide bones, which are supposed to be better for them--so I'm excited to get my dog.com box!

Thanks! I think I'll try em.  I hope she'll chew on it...she seems to be picky. :S

Yes, the bully's are meant to be consumed. They are more easily digested than rawhide and they don't use bleaching chemicals, formaldahyde and such in processing them so they are considered safer.
I buy straight 12" long pizzles(bull penis) and it takes them maybe 20 minutes to consume one..I would expect your dog to take a bit longer with a braided one..but not much longer.

I'm sorry, did you say Bull penis? I had nooooooo idea. WOW, wondering who came up the idea that it would be a good dog chew and why?

I'm betting it came from the meatpacking industry and someone thought up a use for those pieces (ahem) that weren't being used for much else. [:D]

I guess we can all be really grateful that they're not recognizeable. [:D][:D] Unless someone actually wants to know, we can just refer to them as dog chews. For ingredients, the ones at Trader Joe's just say *steer pizzle.*

Ok...'nother question! How OFTEN should I allow her to have a bully stick?

my dog went through a  bully stick in 10 minutes - sorry but they are too pricey for that and the fact is he loves to chew.  We've made it without him chewing anything in the house which is amazing with his love of knawing.  Pressed rawhide is the solution, nothing else lasts at all.  We tried the ones from dog.com but they were little pieces wrapped in a big piece.  The best ones BY FAR we have found are from Petedge they are made by ranch(er) rewards  and they are awesome from a serious chewer.  I personally won't order anything else ever again.
As for choking, he doesn't he chews it and if he gets a larger piece off he chews that until its edible.  Fortunatley he has no adverse reaction from rawhide.
He also has kongs but they don't last - whatever you put in it he will have in less than 5 minutes and then he chews the kong.  all of which have to be replaced regularly because he eats the rubber.
I make him a kong lollipop by putting one end of a 6" pressed rawhide bone in the end of a black ultra kong - he LOVES that!

    LOL! Ahem..thats what I said[:)]

I am curious now....how much does everyone pay for pizzles in their area?

We sell them at our shop $2.99 for a 12" and $1.50 for a 6". We also have 3 1/2 footers for $8.99. We had to search hard for a good deal and finally found one. Some of them stink and we won't carry those..these don't. We sell them like crazy.

I can't find them in my area...no big pet stores, or even nice little ones  in my area.  I bought mine from Petco.com, though someone mentioned someone on ebay sells them cheap.  I think I may look there next time.

Maisey:  How can you tell which ones stink?  I bought one once & he LOVED it, but I couldn't stand the smell (it stunk the whole room up).  The bully sticks that ;Petsmart sells here are expensive!

I guess maybe because I open the boxes at work when there are large quantities, it's more obvious. The ones we sell come in bags that we open. They are not individually wrapped..which helps on cost. I can just hold one up to my nose and tell if it's stinker..even the wrapped ones. We keep them near the register and if they are the smelly ones the whole room starts to reek.
