Yes, this is a hoax, a "joke." And even the Humane Society has been trying to keep that site off the web, but they can't.

I can imagine that it started out fairly innocently, and that someone was taking pictures of their cats being silly. Then

ut the name Bonsai Kitty together with the pictures and people took it seriously.

Have you seen dog island? I personally think it's hilarious although it's not policitcally correct to say so to a bunch of dog lovers. Dog Island has a lot of subtle sickness. It may have changed. I haven't seen it in a long time. And the first time I was there I read everything on the site, scratching my head trying to figure out if it was for real.
