How about the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?  They are small.  They won't take up to much room, they won't eat a lot (as large breeds do) and you will be able to controll them better than a large breed since this is going to be your first dog.  They are also very playful.  This breed does great in agility and obedience if you are into doing those types of dog activities.  What ever breed you choose I would strongly suggest a small to medium breed.  Once you learn more about dogs, training, showing (if you choose to do that), etc. you then can go onto a large breed.  Since this is your first dog, if you start off with a large breed I see you setting your self up for faliure and that isn't what you are after.  Good luck!  DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!  RESEARCH        RESEARCH         RESEARCH!!!!!!!!  There are way to many dogs sitting in shelters and rescue groups because people didn't do there research or homework before getting the dog.

I wouldn't suggest this breed as it is very expensive and also very prone to serious health problems.

A lab or lab mix, golden or golden retriever mix...

But I want to know where you are, "omarsherif" ? And you haven't answered if your parents are okay with getting a dog.

I think you've gotten good advice here about not getting a puppy.  Parents often want to give them away when their kids get lazy about taking care of them...not saying you would, but as someone up the thread pointed out, pups can cut into your social life - big time.
The spaniels tend to be energetic, but mellow.  A field spaniel or a boykin spaniel might be a good choice if you can afford one.  Otherwise, I also think it's a nice idea to rescue a mellow older dog in the 3-5 year old category.  They have a harder time finding homes than puppies do, so you could be saving a life.
