My new "job"

    My new "job"

Well, a week or two ago someone opened a thread asking whether we volunteered for our local shelter, and I shamefully said no.  That same week a letter came out in our local paper asking for volunteers to walk dogs.  Couldn't let coincidence pass, and I responded to the letter.  So tomorrow I start walking dogs.

Our local animal shelter is in sort of a strange situation.  The no-kill facility was torn down to build senior affordable housing.  Instead of rebuilding the facility, the city was going to send all animals across the bridge to San Diego to kill shelters.  Coronado citizens were enraged, so now all the animals are now being housed in the basement of the police department.  No fresh air, no air conditioning, no windows, no natural light, no dog runs.  So I'm pretty psyched about my new "job".  Sounds like the dogs will really be needing those walks.

Wow, how fun, I would love to do that if I had the time.  Strange situation for the placement of a shelter but at least all thoes dogs will be re-homed.

Are they building a new shelter?

Way to go giving a part out of your day to brighten up those dogs lives. I bet they can't wait for their walks and get out in the fresh air. Hope they finally build a real animal shelter.

Are they building a new shelter?

They are planning on building a new shelter within three to five years.  Location is a problem though.  We are on a small island with little room for any more development.  Everyone has been screaming, "Not in my backyard!", so who know when it will finally go up.
Fortunately the shelter only has an average of 3 dogs and 10 cats.
