Dog In A Wedding Ceremony

i think its a sweet notion to have a dog in a wedding, but i can totally see my dog going completly berserk, hence the name. i dont understand how having a dog there would be any less religious than having your mother-in-law[sm=evilfire.gif] present though.

LOL! Wow sounds like you have more MIL problems than I do! That made me laugh.

Trudy would be a great flower girl, but I have been married for 26 years! ha. I think a dog involved is wonderful.

I think it is a great idea and recently found the below website that will use your bridesmades fabric, wedding colors or fresh flowers to make a unique and coordinating collar just for the special occasion!

Weell I'm w/ Colliewog; my wedding is in 2008 and Maggie and "Dog number 2" (DN2 is a future dog that I'll be getting in about 14 months lol) will be included. I'll have about 6 or 8 months to train DN2 fully, and Maggie is a therapy dog and will be about 9 yo by the ceremony so I'm not worried about her behavior at all.

Scott (fiance) convinced me to have a designated dog handler, and now I think it's a great idea; they will be in charge of leashes and poop pick up if needed when the dogs aren't with Scott and I. The dogs would attend the ceremony and picture taking and then would go home before the reception starts.

The dogs will either walk down the aisle w/ myself and/or Scott, be escorted, or be recalled to me. Maggie and DN2 will serve as ring bearers; DN2 will have my ring and Maggie will have Scott's. Both will wear neat, color coordinated collars.

Maggie may also be the flower girl in my friend's wedding a few weeks after mine.

My wedding will be in a church, but my church is much more open to that kind of thing - people wanting to become ministers/teachers in that church must learn pet blessings.

I can understand that having dogs at a large wedding and reception could be a mistake.  This will be my second marriage and will be a small ceremony, probably just my parents/brother and his parents/sister, and then a few select friends.  There will be no reception, and the ceremony will be short and sweet, then a great photo session.  

Here, these are some of my wedding pics. Joey was our ring bearer and the only people I had to argue with about this was my dog hating father in law. We just didn't tell him till the last minute.

Our recesion song was "All Creature's of Our God and King." And our ceramony directory said "Ring Bearer" - Joey (spoiled and well loved mutt).

In the picture at the reception behind the wedding party table, if you look behind the bride (me) you'll see a dog crate. And if you look really hard, you'll see that my mother-in-law decorated it - totally unexpected.

He was a hit, but very well behaved. He didn't cry or bark, just looked intently at me. Of course it helped that Christina (or Silly Sally as you know her on this forum) kept him in control.

But the ceremony was outside and we crated him in the reception hall. Someone has a picture where Chris and I are dancing with Joey - I'm holding him in my wedding dress. Of course it was toward the end of the night.

Honestly I did fret about him behaving, but just like a toddler, if he miss behaved someone would take him away. If he was a 3 year old boy, it would have been the same concern minus the leash[]

My dog was with us during the ceremony- he has worn a bow tie- not more. The ceremony without our dog- impossible!!

rofl.. oh gosh.. GREAT POINT!! [] [] [] It's a day of celebration of not only God, but their happiness and love- hello pastor! And if that includes a dog, so be it. All the more power to them.

jojo the pogo.. what great pictures!! Joey was dashing! And hun, you looked beautiful!

I've alwayed planned to have MoJo be the "ring bearer" at my own wedding. A bow-tie and two little cuffs.. maybe the shirt & jacket, too, if he'll have it. Oh my.. so cute to think about.. gotta laugh! []

I think if it's really important to you to have your dog in your wedding you need to plan ahead and you may have to decide what's more important: having your dog in your wedding or getting married by your family pastor who doesn't allow dogs in weddings - or having your dog in your wedding or getting married in a beautiful cathedral.

I know what most of us would pick.

Awww Joey is so regal in his tux!  And your wedding dress is GORGEOUS!!!!

This is the wedding scenario I imagine with my dog if I ever were to bring her to my wedding. The classic premier episode from The Brady Bunch when Tiger, the family dog, got out of the car where he was kept to "avoid any trouble at the ceremony he might cause" and then chased the cat all over the place, eventually getting Mike to run after the wedding cake, catch it, but had Carol cause him to drop it on himself.
C'mon...that was a lot of fun. I bet anybody would want a big laugh like that at their wedding and your guests would definitely remember it.

Plus, who really likes to eat wedding cake anyhow?[]

When my now husband and I were getting married in July8th of this year, we actually where going to have our berner be the ring bearer, as it got closer and it got hottier we decided to leave him at home in the ac to stay cool. if the pastor would have told us it wasn't possible we would have gone some place else.....
