    A Cautionary Tale.....

Just a word of caution for those of you with bully breeds or thinking of getting a bully breed dog...

One of my coworkers has an 8 yr old greyhound, and 2 yr old pit, and a 6 month old pit--all females.  He let them run in their fenced yard unsupervised this past Friday while he ran errands.  When he came home the 6 month old was limping badly and had a swollen leg.  On further inspection, he realized that the swelling was caused by punture wounds--his two pits had gotten into a fight.  He took the younger one to the vet and the vet said that while it was just punture wounds, they were on their way to infection and she was cleaned up and put on antibiotics--he had a vet bill of $150+.    The older dog is seemingly unhurt besides bloodshot eyes--he thinks they may have somehow butted heads.  Luckily, the older on let up on the younger one before more serious damage was done.  He said that he had heard not to leave them alone loose together but thought they would be fine in the yard.

I'm sure most of you bully people know this already, but don't let it happen to you!!  Please be careful with your pups......

Yeah, I'm sure most people think these things won't happen because their dogs are usually fine together.  I think it's true of the bully breeds but also chows and really any breed.  [:)]

Funny how people who even own the breeds "hear" things and don't heed them.

I was told a story way back when we only had two, my friend had her dogs crated when she went to the store. Apparently one broke out of the crate and the others got wound up and started breaking out of their crates, a fight broke out in the room they were in and when my friend returned only three dogs were left alive in a pile in the room. Alive but severely beaten that they could not be saved. Only a few of her dogs were still left in crates, she lost a major part of her breeding program that day even though her dogs were crated...accidents can happen supervised or not as well as protected.

Ever since she told me of that day I have always bungeed my crate doors and NEVER left a dog out with another unsupervised, I opt to learn from others misfortunes

Spike is pretty gentle with Cj. But the breeder told us that when Cj gets older they should not be alone for any length of time cause of his breed. He is  a Pressa. And eventually he would try to dominate Spike. Spike is the gentlest dog I have ever known. Cj is just as sweet but we are starting to see a little aggression when it comes to dog other than Spike we have been trying to keep him socialized. But we are experianced with Aggressice dogs. We had  a Pit  / Pressa mix that we adopted years ago his name was Cronic he was  a fighting dog he was very good with people but could not stand anything with fur but when we got Spike he fell in love you would have thought he was Spike mother he cleaned him followed him around and was so gentle with him. We think he was like that with Spike cause he was dying and wanted to give us something to help the hurt when he was gone. We did not know it but he had cancer and we had to let him go to the bridge about 3mth after we got Spike. And to this day of Spike catchs his smell on a couple blanket we still have from Cronic that we do not wash he still goes around looking form him.

omg...  My heart just sank reading this.  We used to leave our male Lab Monkey (now at the bridge) alone with our friend's male Pittie ALL the time.  We doggie sat for each other all the time too.  Justice (the Pittie) was not good with other male dog's in general, but we never saw any aggression with Monkey so we never gave it a second thought.   I guess hindsight is 20/20.  I'll never do that again.
