    So sad...

I want so badly to go get one of these dogs.  Its not fair that they have lived in a shelter with "no a/c or drainage"[&:]... for a year!  It makes me so so sad, and DH wont let me.Angry  I just cant wait to move to the new house whn we can actually look into another dog.  Its breaks my heart.

Also terribly sad that people finally find their dog, and can't get it back because the new owner won't surrender it. Can you imagine losing your home, all your belongings, your whole city...and then knowing that someone else has your dog and you'll never get to see her again?

I understand that they had to find these animals places to go, but it seems to me that someone knowing the animal was a Katrina rescue would be more generous about letting the owner reclaim his/her pet...I mean, haven't these people had tragedy enough without losing their beloved companions?

I know... thats a hard call... I think each individual situation like that should be closely looked at and they should decide what to do.  I know some owners may have just been careless while others may have had some crazy ordeal.  I know I wouldnt have let my dog out of my sight no matter what.  While it makes you seriously wonder how that animal got away and into a shelter for a while without someone claiming... theres always the exceptions.  I dunno.  I hope the people who left animals will think differently next time, although I cant FATHOM leaving them or how anyone did.  Even if you think youll be back in a few days... sheesh you are leaving because of potential danger.  I dont get it.

So many are still in need too.[:(]

See, I'd need to know more about the specifics of those folks who won't return the dogs.  Were any potential fighting dogs?  I suppose not.  I just wonder what the full story is.
I volunteered at Lamar-Dixon (staging are for the HSUS, etc) while I was down in LA.  Those volunteers worked their A$$es off, slept in tents, and they all were hugely thrilled for the reunions with owners.  They would tell new volunteers to be on the look-out, because that's what made their work all the more rewarding.  It was an ENORMOUS job then, and the dramas continue to spill out.  I feel sorry for the loving owners who have to battle so hard through all of this.  It's just not fair.
