Just a bit a help on my new dog

When I first got my dog last year, he was 8 weeks (cocker spaniel). We crate trained him so all sleeping and naps took place in the crate. Eventually, when he was tired, he would go in by himself; however, at first, he would cry, howl, scream. You'd think he was being tortured. I would at first take him out to be sure he didn't have to go pottie, after that, he went back in his crate. If he still cried after 10 minutes, I sat next the crate and put my hand up by his nose. I didn't take him out. I didn't want him thinking crying means he gets out. Once he calmed down, I went back to bed. Usually worked. At first, he was getting up every 3 hours just to go pottie. You have to be consistent and very patient. After about 2 weeks, he was sleeping through the night and all was well. I can't say enough about crate training.

I don't know why people think bathing a dog is bad. Very strange to me. You do what you want to. If  he is dirty, bath him. Use a very good shampoo and conditioner. I use Solid Gold. I bathe Trudy weekly. Some big dogs  with very little coat go longer, or dogs that are outside a lot. Trudy is inside all the time, of course we go on walks too.

Bathing is not bad. It feels good to us and Trudy enjoys her bath in the sink.

Find out what kind of food you are feeding.

Your dog is adorable. Glad you are here posting.

They do cry as babies. They are social and want to be with us. They miss thier family they came from too. I always keep my puppies near me at night. Everyone is different. Find what works for you and your pup.

Brendan can you ask your mom if you can buy a crate for the dog what is his name by the way? Is there any reason he can't be in your room w/ his crate or for now with the basket he is in.
Think about how he feels right now, he is in a strange house with people communicating in a way he doesn't understand yet, if you can get the book "The Culture Clash" will help. Then maybe Anne will be by and give you some better ones. Just try to be patient, it will work out he will learn what you want and you what he wants. I would like to see this get better before you go back to school or have you already? I wouldn't want your sleep disturbed.
Sounds like you love him already though I am glad he got such a great home.
