    Puppyfind

Oops, I didn't realize someone just asked a similar question about getting another dog. Sorry. I can read those replies. I was wondering if anyone had an opinion about puppyfind.com? I've heard both good and bad stories about it. Thanks. [:)]

One of my friends almost got a puppy off there... it's a good thing she showed me first. It's a site full of BYBs and puppy millers... I wouldn't touch it with a 40 foot pole and I made sure to let her know that.

I had once considered puppyfind as well, but taht was before I knew better.

puppyfind is no good.... bad news...

Not only are they puppy millers, back yard breeders, but a lot of times they are scammers.

I wouldn't buy/adopt a puppy without meeting it first, either... not to mention that shipping a dog should be a last resort.

I wouldn't even consider it, and suggest you don't either.

May I suggesthttp://www.petfinder.com/ ?  I don't know what breed your looking for but there are many in shelters in need of a good home.  Some on here will be put to sleep if they don't find a home, others are just looking for that secound chace and live in a foster  home at this moment.  All really good dogs who come from caring loving people just trying to help.  There are even puppies here full breed and mixed, great place to start you search!

Puppyfind is full of puppy mills and BYBs. Shamefully, I didnt know any better and I got two Dal litter mates from there. I was told one was deaf but when I got the male (who was supposed to hear perfectly) home, he was unilateral hearing (could only hear out of one ear) and he died of parvo shortly after I got him. The woman refused to speak to me at all after Sancho died:( . The lady had no idea what a good breeder is like and she was not responsible at all, she didnt even know what a show quality pup looked like.

Thankfully, at least Marley (the sister) could be saved, but it was heartbreaking to lose the male, since we bonded instantly. I miss my little guy. Please, please dont buy from puppyfind.com . Or you will end up broken hearted like me. I love Marley, and I wouldnt trade her for anything in the world but I wish I had been a little smarter about who to buy a puppy from. It has been 2 years now since Sancho (Marley's litter mate) has passed and it still upsets me. Go to petfinder.com, you can find any breed there, and you will be saving a life. Or find a responsible breeder who breeds dogs for quality and not $.

What kind of breed are you looking for?

Myself and a few other show Beaglers advertise there. You cannot HOPE to divert someone from a BYB or mill situation unless you put yourself in their path. Websites are not enough...you must advertise and get them to contact you so you can spread the word about where NOT to buy a puppy. If more breeders felt this way and got over their worry about image....Puppyfind would be a very different place.

I'd ask people here to consider it's potential to do GOOD as well...

The main problem I see there now is not BYB's or mills but SCAMMERS who are stealing pics from other ADS and listing as breeders to do the Nigerian check over the amount scheme.

True confession, I got Russell from puppyfind. I had no idea what I was doing. My friends had gotten a puppy from there and raved about the great breeder they found, so we did it too. [sm=blush.gif] Barely a day goes by that my boyfriend and I don't say to each other or the dog "we got lucky." Now we know the odds were against getting a great dog. I thought our breeder was so nice and helpful. As soon as she had my money in hand she was like a ghost. Not only did I never hear from her again, soon after that her kennel website went down, she disappeared from puppyfind only to reappear under her husband's name, then disappeared again. Every now and then I google them and find them selling puppies at a different shady website under a different name. I also once saw her selling a puppy on puppyfind using Russell's photos, or at any rate the photos she sold Russell to us with. He turned out to be a good, healthy dog, but my friends' puppy turns out to have extremely severe allergies and they've spent a small fortune in vet bills trying to help him stop suffering.

Well I have a few friends who did buy from puppyfind and they told me they had good experiences which led me to investigate furthur and I have found sites like this. I wasn't really considering buying from puppyfind, I just want to educate myself about everything concerning animals. They are my passion. I have a 3 1/2 yr. old Shih Tzu who's the absolute love of my life and I posted about getting another dog or not because we are so bonded. So I do really love the breed, but I'd also consider a different breed(I love all dogs!) or a mixed breed. My family had wonderful mixed breeds growing up. Thank you for all your input. It's nice to find a site where others care about dogs/animals.

    P.S.- Those Beagles are beautiful.
